1898 Waverly Inn News

 

Spring is coming to Hendersonville! The crocuses are blooming and the daffodils are coming up! We'll be seeing the hyacinths and tulips any day now! We had some beautiful snow this year, but I am ready for Spring!

 

The Audubon Society's Great Backyard Bird Count was February 14-17 this year. Despite the snow, 75 different species were reported. Jackson Park, Mills River Park and Osceola Lake had the highest count. These are close and really easy to find. But, you don't even have to leave the Inn! You can see so many birds in the trees and bushes right here.
 Spring at the Biltmore Estate Package ~ March 20 - May 22, 2014 
 

The Biltmore Estate is beautiful at any time of the year, but Spring is spectacular! The Orchid Display continues until Thursday, March 20, when Biltmore Blooms begins. Spring bulbs, dogwoods, and redbuds are followed by poppies, snapdragons, and pansies. There will also be free demonstrations daily in the Conservatory on Designing Spring Wreaths and Creating Elegant Centerpieces.

Henderson County Heritage Museum Saluda Grade Railway Exhibit
 

Henderson County Heritage Museum will be presenting Golden Age - The Coming of the Railroad. It will feature a recreation of the Saluda Grade, the steepest main-line standard gauge railroad in the United States. Also see weapons & uniforms from the Civil War and a recreation of Hendersonville's first general store.

Then drive down and see the Saluda Grade, only about 10 miles down scenic US-176.
