New Del Valle playground opens May 21
Del Valle playground opens on Saturday, May 21
 
The entire Lakewood community is invited to the opening day ceremony for the Del Valle playground near the corner of Woodruff Avenue and Henrilee Street.

The event will begin at 10:00 a.m., with brief welcoming remarks from Mayor Ron Piazza.

Attendees will receive a free balsa-wood airplane with the Del Valle playground logo printed on the wing (while supplies last). Participants can also enjoy a variety of other kid-friendly activities, including face painting and a photo booth. The event will conclude by 12:00 p.m.

Council Recap: May 10

The Lakewood City Council met on Tuesday evening, May 10 and performed its annual review of Lakewood projects that will receive federal Community Development Block Grant funds.

Projects for the year ahead include enhanced code enforcement work, fair housing services and improvements to the Burns Community Center.

May is Bike Safety Month
Share the road...safely

May is Bicycle Safety Month, which reminds us that bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as automobile drivers and are required to obey the same rules of the road.

Just as a vehicle is required to have valid registration, bicycles are also required to have a license. Having a license help reduce bicycle thefts and aids in identifying and recovering bicycles which are lost or stolen.

LYS signups run May 14 to 21
Lakewood Youth Sports signups start May 14

Signups for Lakewood Youth Sports baseball, softball and T-ball teams will take place at all Lakewood parks from May 14 to 21.

T-ball teams are for boys and girls ages 6 to 7, and baseball and softball teams are for boys ages 8 to 15 and girls ages 8 to 17.

There are no team fees for Lakewood residents, and proof of residency is required. The non-resident registration fee is $20. Birth certificates are required.

FUN-Tastic Family Night May 27
FUN-Tastic Family Night with Dr. Rusty's Dinosaur Safari

Get ready to get your "roooaaarrr" on and join Dr. Rusty as he takes his Dinosaur Safari to The Centre at Sycamore Plaza, 5000 Clark Avenue on Friday, May 27.

This interactive, theatrical performance tells the story of "Ty," a Tyrannosaurus who doesn't know if he's a carnivore or an herbivore. Through music, live puppet role play, experiments and audience participation, this show teaches audience members about the "Giants of the Past." A light meal of barbeque chicken skewers, corn on the cob, lemonade and dessert will be served prior to the show.
