New fun coming to 'The Fiesta' this weekend!

The Fiesta has been redesigned with new, fun features this year. The big Lakewood event comes to Mayfair Park at 5720 Clark Avenue from Thursday, May 5 to Sunday, May 8.

New and expanded features include:

* More food trucks, with creative and popular menus!
* New, exhilarating attractions like mechanical bull-riding and rock climbing!
* Live music on Friday and Saturday nights, including the '80s band Knyght Ryder and the L. A. All Stars.

The Fiesta--Lakewood's longest-running community event--is also filled with great Lakewood history and traditions.

More than 450 volunteers from six to 66 turned out on April 16 to help disabled, senior and other Lakewood neighbors by cleaning, painting, and weeding more than 20 private homes and six public sites.

"On behalf of my city council colleagues and the residents of Lakewood, I want to thank everyone who helped out on this year's Volunteer Day," said Mayor Ron Piazza. "I was really impressed with what I saw. The volunteer spirit in Lakewood is a big part of what makes us a strong, caring community."

Farmers' Market is a success

The new Lakewood Farmers' Market celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, April 30 with fresh food and fun for hundreds of Lakewood shoppers.

Every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon, the new Lakewood Farmers' Market will be open in the parking area to the west of Target in Lakewood Center, near the corner of Lakewood Boulevard and Candlewood Street.

Come do some "farm-fresh" shopping and get fruits, vegetables, bread, fish and other wholesome foods from 8:00 a.m. to noon. And for your other shopping needs, Target opens its doors at 8:00 a.m. and other mall stores open at 10:00 a.m.

Teens prep for job success starting May 10 at Lakewood Youth Center

Teens get prepped for job success

Teens hoping to land a summer job should check out the free career-building series in May at the Lakewood Youth Center.

The two-week, four-session series is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. beginning May 10. No pre-registration needed.

Tickets still available for Disney's 'Newsies' on May 19

Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Choreography, "Newsies" is a high-energy explosion of song and dance coming soon to the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts in Costa Mesa.

The cost of this trip is $55 which includes bus transportation to the event location.
