Farmers Market coming April 30 to Lakewood Center
Farmers' Market starts Saturday, April 30 at Lakewood Center

Once a week on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon starting April 30, the new Lakewood Farmers' Market will be open in the parking area south of El Torito Restaurant at the northwest corner of Lakewood Center.

Come out for the grand opening celebration that will include live entertainment, give-aways and fun for the entire family.

Regular features of the Lakewood Farmers' Market will include:

* Organic fruits and vegetables, including pears, peaches, and berries
* Organic cheese and butter
* Grass-fed beef and lamb
* Fresh seafood
* Honey, coffee and baked goods, including many gluten-free items
* Nutrient-rich micro grains and organic herbs

Dropping off toxic trash is fast and easy at EDCO
Trash your toxics this Saturday at EDCO

Every 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Lakewood residents can take their hazardous and e-waste to EDCO's large transfer facility at 2755 California Avenue (between Spring Street and Willow Street) in Signal Hill. The next free event is Saturday, April 9.

From romance novels to large-format books, visitors will find low-priced deals on used books at the Friends of the Lakewood Libraries (FOLL) sale on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sale items include hardback books for $1 and up, textbooks, encyclopedias, computer materials, children's books, a "Teacher's Table," unusual books, cassettes and videos. Proceeds support Lakewood's two local libraries.

FOLL scholarship applications now accepted
Friends of the Lakewood Libraries now accepting scholarship applications

The Friends of the Lakewood Libraries (FOLL) is now accepting applications for educational scholarships. The program is open to both high school seniors and those currently enrolled in post-high school education. Applicants and/or immediate family members must have volunteered for FOLL, Angelo Iacoboni Library or George M. Nye, Jr. Library. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000 and are provided to help pay future college or trade school costs.

Students who are strongly motivated to continue their education, have contributed actively to their community or school and excelled academically are encouraged to apply by the Thursday, April 21 deadline. Applications are available at www.LakewoodLibraryFriends.org and at both libraries.

Services available for kids with developmental delays
Services for kids under 3 with developmental delays

If you have concerns about the development of your young child (birth to age 3), the California Early Start Program can help. Sponsored locally by the L.A. County Office of Education, Early Start provides in-home special services to infants and toddlers who may have a developmental delay or disability. The goal is to help children obtain their full potential by reaching them during the all-important first 3 years of life.
