BevMo! coming to Lakewood later this year!

At today's Lakewood Economic Forecast luncheon, Mayor Ron Piazza announced that the popular beverage retailer BevMo! will be opening in Lakewood later this year at the site of the former Tokyo Hibachi restaurant on Candlewood Street.

Free shredding day April 2

On Saturday, April 2 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Lakewood residents are invited to the Lakewood Civic Center to safely dispose of documents containing personal information like old bank statements and tax records.

The free professional shredding service sponsored by the City of Lakewood and EDCO Waste Services has added "green" features like a mulch giveaway and e-waste drop off.

FOLL book sale on April 9

From romance novels to large-format books, visitors will find low-priced deals on used books at the Friends of the Lakewood Libraries (FOLL) sale on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sale items include hardback books for $1 and up, textbooks, encyclopedias, computer materials, children's books, a "Teacher's Table," unusual books, cassettes and videos. Proceeds support Lakewood's two local libraries.

This handsome young man is "Elijah" (ID number 16-17886). "Elijah" is a 2-year-old neutered male Domestic Shorthair gray tabby. He is very curious and athletic. He is looking for a new family that will keep him entertained. If you think "Elijah" would be a good fit for you, he's available for adoption at SEAACA, 9777 Seaaca Street in Downey.
