Traffic Alert for Del Amo and Woodruff
Del Amo service road east of Woodruff affected for two months

In the next few days, the Southern California Gas Co. will start its next safety project in Lakewood, which is to install automatic shutoff devices on underground transmission lines along Del Amo Boulevard. The new project will take place largely on the service road on the south side of Del Amo just east of Woodruff Avenue, near Faust Avenue.

OSH Grand Opening February 20
OSH marks grand opening in a special way

Instead of a ribbon-cutting, the general manager of the new Orchard Supply & Hardware (OSH) at Palo Verde Avenue and South Street did a board-cutting with a chainsaw to formally open the store on February 20. Lakewood City Council Members and hundreds of local residents joined in the celebration.

Council Recap: Lakewood exceeding water conservation goal

At their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, the Lakewood City Council received an update on how the city and the state are doing with water conservation. The state goal for conservation in Lakewood is 20% from 2013 usage levels. Lakewood residents and businesses have surpassed the goal by conserving over 26% during that time period.

Prevent the spread of Zika virus

The Zika virus that's been making bad news in Brazil and elsewhere has not been identified in L.A. County mosquitoes. However, the virus is transmitted primarily through the bite of infected "Aedes" mosquitoes, which have been detected in California. The mosquitoes spread the virus only after feeding on infected travelers. The Greater L.A. County Vector Control District offers tips to help residents eliminate mosquito breeding areas on their property.

Early registration deadline for Lakewood Run is February 25
February 25 is deadline for Lakewood Run discount registration

Discount registration is $35 through Thursday, February 25 for the March 5 Lakewood Run. After that, the registration fee increases to $40. You can even register the day of the event, beginning at 6:30 a.m. The 5K and 10K runs start at 8:00 a.m. and the Fun Run at 9:30 a.m.

The Lakewood Run is designed for all levels of runners. Sheriff's deputies, recreational runners, families and kids will gather at the starting line in front of the Lakewood Sheriff's Station to run the event's 5K/10K course for time, or do the 1K "Fun Run" or a 5K walk.  More
