Get a head start on your New Year's resolution
Kids in 1K Fun Run
Put your New Year's fitness resolution to the test when the Lakewood Run returns on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Sheriff's deputies, recreational runners, families and kids will gather at the starting line in front of the Lakewood Sheriff's Station to run the event's 5K/10K course for time, or do the 1K "Fun Run" or a 5K walk. EDCO facility open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
EDCO transfer facility
The EDCO facility in Signal Hill opens every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to accept household hazardous waste and e-waste. This service is free. The facility is at 2755 California Avenue, between Spring Street and Willow Street, north of 27th Street, in Signal Hill. Click for directions. More 
Service changes for Monday, January 18
Lakewood City Hall
Lakewood City Hall will be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 18. Trash pickup and street sweeping will continue with normal schedules. DASH service will not be available.  More

City of Lakewood
Lakewood's annual State of the City Luncheon is set for Monday, January 25 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at The Centre at Sycamore Plaza. Attendees will hear what Lakewood's leaders are saying about the city's upcoming opportunities and challenges.

This annual event is sponsored by the City of Lakewood, the Rotary Club of Lakewood, and the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are for sale online now at a cost of $25 at www.lakewoodcity.org/sotctickets. The reservation deadline is Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

The program will review the accomplishments of the past year and feature the first showing of Lakewood's always informative and entertaining annual report video, which will be played in the weeks following the event on CityTV Channel 31. More

Registration has begun for the new spring recreation catalog mailed in late December. Most classes and activities begin the week of Monday, February 1.

Set out trees on trash collection day through January 8
EDCO trash recycling
EDCO will pick up discarded Christmas trees on your trash collection day through Friday, January 8. Flocked trees are OK, but decorations, tinsel and metal or plastic stands must be removed. Wooden tree stands can be left on the tree. The tree must not be in a bag. Trees over six feet tall must be cut in half.
