No reservations are required. Parking will be available in the rear Centre-City Hall parking lots. The parking lot in front of city hall will be closed as it will be used for the event.

There will be plenty of opportunities for Lakewood residents and friends to enjoy some holiday good cheer around the Lakewood tree if you can't make the tree lighting on December 4. From December 5 through January 3, the tree will be on display in the plaza between city hall and The Centre at Sycamore Plaza at 5000 Clark Avenue, providing an animated light show on the tree that changes colors to music continuously from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. each night.

Stop by and enjoy the splendor of the winter holidays! It's also a great place to take a family holiday photo.

Tuesday, November 17 meeting
Lakewood City Council Chamber
At its Tuesday meeting, the Lakewood City Council approved the appropriation of $230,000 for new play and fitness equipment at Rynerson Park. The existing equipment is reaching the end of its service life, and the city decided to act now to take advantage of a special grant that will reduce the cost of the new equipment by $83,000.

The new adult-teen fitness area will be located between a play area for 2- to 5-year-olds and another play area for 5- to 12-year-olds. Innovative new GameTime equipment will be featured in all three areas. Construction and installation will take place this winter, with the goal of opening the new play areas in the spring.

Teddy Bear Trees have sprouted citywide
Childs gife wish card.
The opportunity to make a difference in a child's holiday returns to Lakewood this week with the sprouting of "Teddy Bear Trees" citywide. They're decorated with lots of paper bear ornaments. Each holds a hoped-for gift and the first name of the child in need.

Since 1995, children from families enrolled in Project Shepherd have hung their holiday gift wishes on "Teddy Bear Trees." Their hope is to have them filled by an anonymous "Santa."

Volunteer St. Nicks need only choose an ornament off a tree, fulfill the wish listed on it and return the unwrapped gift to any of these city facilities and businesses. Trees are located at the Burns Community Center, Weingart Senior Center, City Hall (Recreation Department), AARP in Lakewood, F&M Bank in Lakewood, Cassidy's Corner and Nifty After Fifty.

Gifts can also be dropped off at most City of Lakewood facilities during business hours prior to Monday, December 7.

There's also a Rotary-sponsored weekend event coming to Lakewood Center on December 5 and 6. While shopping for their own families, residents can fulfill the holiday wish of a child in need. Rotary Club of Lakewood volunteers will be on hand to assist. More

Lakewood Mayor Jeff Wood has signed a proclamation declaring November 28 as Small Business Saturday in Lakewood and throwing the city's support behind the effort. "There are some excellent small businesses here in Lakewood," said Wood. "You'll get service with a personal touch and support a small business that's good for our community." More

New this year, the Elf-Ray vision has expanded with more viewing locations inside as well as outside of Santa's Observatory. There's even a "Naughty O' Nice Meter" to try out. More
