this is Dick Boyd from Midwest Sheet Music. Welcome back to The Anthem, our newsletter specifically for choral directors in all fields, sacred or secular.

So quickly we trade a beautiful fully decorated Christmas tree for a barren tree on which Christ will become our Savior. I have attempted to choose a few anthems that will assist in describing the sacrifice and entrance into Jerusalem and His victory. Please take some time to listen and let this be a small part of your Lenten time of devotion.

But first - one item of note...
Website phase 1 is live!

We've been working on this a long time, and our website is finally in its first phase of completion. What does this mean for you? Well, ordering for your church is now a lot simpler, and you don't have to guess which days I'll be in the store to put an order in.

We've uploaded thousand of choral titles into our searchable database, including works from Hal Leonard, Alfred, Hope, Lorenz, Beckenhorst, Carl Fischer and Theodore Presser. More publishers will be uploaded in the spring. You can search for any work by typing any combination of title, composer, arranger, catalog number, and publisher in the search box at the top of the page. Add copies to your cart, and type in your church billing info at check out. We'll get your order together and bill your church. Or, you can have us call you for a credit card number if you prefer. Secure online credit card payment will be coming in the Spring.

What if you can't find the title you want? No problem - just type in whatever info you know into the order form instead of choosing from the database. We'll still get the order and will contact you if we can't figure out what you want.

Finally, if there is a festival, honor choir or church clinic that you want to attend and need music for, we have a place on our Choral page to list all the titles associated with that event. You can select all or some of the titles, edit any quantities, and submit your order. If you are in charge of such an event, contact us and let us know what titles are involved and we'll get that page ready for you.

More features will come in the spring and summer once we get out of convention season and Easter. Take a look at our web site and let us know your feedback. Thank you all!

To the Lamb on the Throne
Dan Forest

Saying this piece is "Majestic" is quite an understatement. Dan Forrest has done it again! He keeps amazing me with his eloquent settings, in this case a Charles Wesley text "Ye Servants of God".  A brass quintet and timpani raise the praise to a fever pitch and then the congregations joins in to make Heaven seem near.

SATB - $2.10
Instrumental parts - $25.00
Christ is Alive! (An Easter Introit)
Darian Krimm / Joseph Martin

An energizing anthem for Resurrection Sunday, this call to purpose is an ideal opener for Easter worship celebrations. Joyful text-painting lifts spirits and climbing fanfare-like gestures announce the risen Christ. Trumpet part included with octavo.

Depth of Mercy
David Rasbach

A heartfelt setting of Wesley's text. David Rasbach sets this familiar text with a fresh tune and harmonies that pleads our helpless state leading to the comforting statement that "God is love. I know, I feel. Jesus weeps and loves me still". Optional string accompaniment available.

Let My Heart Be Quiet

This anthem urges us to stay calm in spite of what is going on around us and listen only to His voice. Also to spend much time in unhurried prayer, as we listen for His voice.

Blessed Is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord!

This Palm Sunday piece frames the familiar tune "St. Theodulph" (All Glory Laud and Honor). It begins with an optional children's choir leading into the familiar hymn tune, including optional congregation.

Christ is Alive!
Allen Pote

A choral and brass fanfare opes this rousing Easter anthem. It is all original music using no hymn tunes. The story of the tomb unfolds and leads up to an impressive display of contrapuntal "alleluias" between the voice parts. A CD accompaniment is available if your brass quintet is off that Sunday.
