The Wind Band Report:
Grade 3 and Marches music sale, website updates, and W9 form.
Hello  welcome back to the Wind Band Report. I'm still playing catch up with listening after being gone for the month of July, so I'm not quite ready to put out my recommendations for new grades 1-3ish literature just yet. I'll follow up with that soon, I promise. If you want to know about grade 4-6 materials though, I've got quite a list, and not just the works done at the WASBE Reading Sessions. I'll do a separate email on that soon as well, but you can call me anytime and I'll get you an advance list.

So we're been looking into ways to fit even more band music into the space we have. The shelves were filled in pretty tightly. We are seriously considering expanding our space (the music and arts school next door has moved up the street), but we needed a stopgap solution to get us by for a while. After looking at the inventory that has been in the store since before I first started working here, Mark and I decided it was time to purge a lot of it. I looked on the shelves for the works that were not on any of the state lists that I was familiar with and had been on his shelf for several years, and pulled them. A lot of them.
Band Sale - Grade 3, Marches
Instead of throwing the music away though, we decided to take it to the Texas and Arkansas Bandmasters conventions and sell it for $10 each. We were able to find new homes for most of the grade 1 and 2 literature, but we still have a lot of grade 3-5 works left. I've gone into the bins and organized the grade 3 literature and the marches. All these title are $10 each, plus shipping. Here is a list of what I have on hand, along with sound files for nearly all of them. It's first come, first served.

If your school has little to no budget, or you're looking for some sight reading materials, or if you see a small gem from your past, this could be a find for you. We'd much rather find home for these than to throw them out, so if something here strikes your fancy give me a call, drop me an email, or order it through our website (see below). Just be sure to let us know you got this from the sale promotion to get the $10 pricing.

I'll go into the grade 4-5 materials next and send another newsletter on those in the weeks ahead.
New W9 forms
If your bookkeepers need a new W9 form because of our name change, you can download it here. Our tax information, address, and FEIN has not changed, only the name of the store.
Updated school email addresses?
Just a side note for the future. Sometimes schools will change the domain name of your work emails at the beginning of the school year. If that happens, you won't get any of my newsletters. If your school tells you that your email address is changing, drop me a quick line and let me know if you want to keep receiving the Wind Band Report. I'll get your records up to date.
Website status
We've got a few parts of the new website up and running. For the moment, you can place your orders on our "Quick Order" page. You just type in the information of the pieces you want, enter your contact information, and add any special notes that you think we should know. You can select to pick it up in the store or have it shipped to you. Then your order will be emailed to the department you choose (instrumental, choral, general) and we'll take it from there. If you're one of our regulars, we probably have all the info we need. If it's a personal order, we'll contact you directly for your credit card info.

Our next step is getting an actual catalog onto our site. We have a lot of the raw data from dozens of publishers (and my own personal database), so now I have to meet with our web guru next week and make all the data line up so that it's consistent.

Once that's done you'll be able to browse for a specific title to order. You'll also be able to hear sound files and see pictures or scores, when applicable. If you can't find what you want (or don't want to search for it), you'll still be able to enter item information separately for us to locate for you.

Additionally, once that's in place we'll be able to do something else. I can set up special pages with all the materials needed for your conducting class, your conducting symposium, your choral festival, etc.  Participants will be able to go to that page and select all or some of the items they need and send the order to us.  Just let me know in advance what materials your participants require and I'll set up the page.

The next phase after that will be on line secure credit card submission. We'll keep you posted when that part is ready.

That's it for now. Not as much new materials as I normally would do, but I'll make up for that in another couple weeks. So take a look at our sale pieces to see if you can find a home for some of them, and I'll get back to listening to all these other new works coming in the door. Thanks again for reading.

Have a great new school year!
