The Wind Band Report:
New store info, new music reading sessions (with sound links)
Hello  welcome back to the Wind Band Report. If you're seeing this for the first time, I likely ran into you at one of the wind band conventions I recently attended at Northwestern University, WASBE, Texas, or Arkansas. I publish this newsletter a few times a year to give wind band directors of all levels information on new resources and music that may be of use. You can take a look at the archives of past issues if you want to see what I do.

So here I am, back home in St. Louis and nearly caught up with orders and requests from the last month while I was gone. For those of you who placed orders last month, thank you all for being patient during that time.

So first off, some updated store information. As you can see above, we have changed our name to Midwest Sheet Music. The name change reflects an update to our view of the store as we go to more and more conventions and reach out to more directors nationwide. It also arose because we wanted to create a new website, and we were told up front that this would be the best time to pick a new store name to go with that site.

The new website is www.midwestsheetmusic.com.  The website is partially complete. For now, you can enter simple orders by typing in the information of what you want to get. In a few weeks we will have the main feature of our website live, which will be the ability to browse through the catalog of dozens of publishers to find what you want. In addition, my personal wind band database will be integrated into that, so many of the obscure pieces I've tracked down over the years will be at your disposal to research and listen to. Yes, sound links will be available too when possible.

Very shortly after that the secure credit card feature will be active so those of you who wish to pay by card will be able to securely submit your information. In addition, upcoming features will be sections where students can find and order their materials for conducting classes and symposiums, links to the archives of our newsletters, announcements of upcoming events, and much more. I'll send out another note when these features go live.
Email addresses
While our old email addresses will stay live for a while yet, we have new email addresses now. Please update your address book to include music@midwestsheetmusic.com, instrumental@midwestsheetmusic.com, and choral@midwestsheetmusic.com.  Make sure your spam filter accepts these addresses too.
W9 forms
If your bookkeepers need a new W9 form because of our name change, you can download it here. Our tax information, address, and FEIN has not changed, only the name of the store.
New Music Reading Sessions:
Advanced and Beginner/Intermediate
Many of you may have seen my last email, which included the handouts from the 6 reading sessions put together for the WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) convention last month in San Jose, CA. While mainly geared for collegiate and advanced groups, an effort was made to include a number of intermediate level works as well. The pieces represent a wide variety of composers and styles from across the globe.  Now you can download a single pdf file of all the performed works along with sound links to listen to them.

In addition, I recently was asked to assemble a reading session for the Arkansas Bandmasters convention in Little Rock. These 10 pieces alos cover a range of styles, but are geared toward younger to intermediate level bands. Even if you're a collegiate director, there are a few pieces on there you may want to know about (Lead Me Home, America the Beautiful, Chosen Destiny).

All the works on both session are available for sale.

With all that was going on last month, I've fallen far behind in my listening and research of the new 2015-2016 titles from the traditional American band publishers, so it's time for me to put my ear to the grindstone and get back to work.  You may see a couple more emails in the next few weeks about new materials and resources, but if you're new to this, don't worry - I won't be spamming your inbox. I won't have time. After all, I have to start getting ready for Midwest.

Have a great new school year!
