Here's the next installment of The Anthem, this time dealing with sacred Christmas octavos. A third installment featuring secular octavos will come out in another day or so.
Here are a few selections for Advent and Christmas that I believe you peruse. Two are not new but deserve your attention. As always, if none of these fit your needs, call or email main and describe to me what you are looking for. I will hand pick anthems that should better meet the needs of your ministries.
Enjoy!

And the Stars Will Dance
Ken Medema / Brad Nix
Ken Medema brings us a unique sounding celebration of Christ's birth as only he could imagine it. The chorale-like opening of this anthem soon segues to a lyrical, yet rhythmic "celestial celebration" of the birth of Christ.
SATB - $1.95

On This Christmas Morn
Bryan Jeffrey Leech / Hart Morris
It's hard to find new anthems with organ accompaniment. Hart Morris must have sensed the need when he set this text to the Hyfrydol tune. He has been sensitive to each stanza in this majestic setting; building from an a cappella simplicity the anthem swells into a full and glorious finish.
SATB - $2.35

The Work of Christmas
Howard Thurman / Dan Forrest
This anthem was featured in our recent church clinic, but in case you missed the clinic, you don't want to miss this, my favorite this year! For those with sopranos of limited tessitura and more altos than sopranos, Dan divides the altos and keeps the sopranos no higher than an F. The text is perfect for Christmastide and Dan's harmonies are lush.
SATB - $1.90

Angels from the Realms of Glory
Dan Forrest
Dan Forrest has this wonderful carol being carried on the fluttering wings of the 1 Piano - 4 Hands accompaniment. He wisely has the divisi in the ladies parts, which also portrays that "angelic" sound (sorry, guys!). There are also two optional instrumental accompaniments available, one for violin and percussion, and one for full orchestra.
SATB - $2.25

Alleluia, Rejoice!
J Hughes
This is not new, but an anthem I don't want you to miss. Handbells or chimes add to the ethereal quality, making it a perfect processional or opening for Christmas Eve service, or at any time during the Advent season.
Two-part, TB, or SATB- $1.85

When God is a Child
John Carter
Another "not-new" anthem, but a wonderful setting of a Brian Wren text. It dances into your heart and becomes an earworm of delight. It seems most appropriate for these troubled times we are enduring.
SATB - $2.05
