Sap Buckets on Landgrove Road
|
Vermont is wrapping up its best ski season in years! The
good news for skiers is that we should have another 3-4 weeks of skiing ahead of us. Goggle tans and aprs ski afternoons lie ahead!
And, the end of the ski season means mud and maple syrup are just around the corner! I think the "gods" planned it this way; If we have to deal with mud, then at least we should be able to enjoy the sweetness of Vermont-made maple syrup. Most sugarhouses welcome visitors throughout the season, but everyone should plan to stop by, visit with and support their favorite sugarmakers during the March 28-29 Maple Open House Weekend.
If you're thinking about selling (or buying), the spring is a great time to get the process rolling. Give me a call to discuss the market and how Mary Mitchell Miller Real Estate and I might be able to help you.
Be well and keep in touch.

Paint, Stain and Varnish Recycling
|
Do you have paint, stain and varnish to recycle?
M any paint stores now take back house paint (including stain and varnish) year-round during their regular business hours as part of the PaintCare program. If the only household hazardous wastes you have for recycling or disposal are paints and stains, finding a place to take them is now easier and more convenient in our community.
The Vermont Paint Stewardship Program is run by PaintCare, a nonprofit organization funded by a nominal fee on the price of new paint. Residents and most businesses from any part of the state may use any PaintCare retail location. PaintCare also offers a pick-up service if you have at least 300 gallons of unwanted paint. [Note: these sites do not accept non-paint products such as thinner, solvents, spackle, pesticides, or cleaning chemicals.]
There is no charge when you drop off your paint or have it picked up. To find participating drop-off locations, learn more about the pick-up service, or find out which products are accepted, please visit http://www.paintcare.org/drop-off-locations/ or call (855) 724-6809.
There are several locations in our area that participate:
- Aubuchon Hardware, Manchester (802)362-7000
- Aubuchon Hardware, Ludlow (802)228-7900
- LaValley Building Supply, Ludlow (802)228-4665

Green Mountain Contemporary
19 Obed Moore Road, Weston
Soaring country contemporary on 12 acres with sweeping views and grand living spaces . . . come enjoy this large, bright, sunny home with room for all. The heart of the house is the spacious and welcoming kitchen and dining area with cathedral ceilings and panoramic views. That space opens to a huge living room with a stone fireplace, a wall of windows looking out over the Green Mountains and several cozy nooks for reading and playing games. The Master Suite is truly spectacular - with long-range views and a marbled private master bathroom - and there are five other very nicely-appointed bedrooms. A finished lower level offers a recreation area to beat all - wet-bar, counter, game tables and an exit to the back yard. This property is offered mostly furnished (a list of furniture is available).

(4-5 large servings)
1 medium yellow onion
1 large clove garlic
1 tablespoon of olive oil
 teaspoon dried sage
2 bay leaves
 cup white wine
 teaspoon baking soda*
1 cup chicken stock (no or low salt)
3 cans diced tomatoes with their juice (no salt added or low sodium, preferred)
1 cup light cream
2 cups milk (skim or 1-2%, not whole)
1) Dice onion and chop garlic finely
2) In a large soup or stock pot, add olive oil, onion and garlic.
3) Cook for a couple of minutes on medium heat, stirring often and being careful not to brown or burn garlic.
4) Add sage, bay leaves and baking soda. Stir.
5) Add white wine, stir, and add chicken stock and tomatoes. Cook for 15-30 minutes until heated and flavor develops.
6) Add cream and milk. Turn burner to low and heat the soup through for another 5-10 minutes. Do NOT bring to a boil.
7) Remove bay leaves and use an immersion blender to blend soup to a chunky puree.
8) Salt and pepper to taste.
Garnish as desired and serve with a slice of hearty bread or a nice big salad!
* This is my secret to a cream-based soup that will not "break" or separate upon reheating!
