In this issue . . .
Welcome
Dear ,

It's been a fantastic summer - a little cooler and a little rainier than usual, but nonetheless a great summer! And, as evidenced by the abundance of fun and exciting items in the "Upcoming Events" section of this newsletter, there is still a lot happening in the next few weeks.

A good friend reminded me the other day that I should urge my readers to forward this newsletter to everyone they think might be interested in its content and maybe just maybe those friends might be thinking of buying or selling property in Vermont!  So with that, you will find a link at the bottom of this newsletter that allows you to forward it your friends. From there, they'll be able to sign up to receive their own future issues.

As always, thanks for your support, your friendship and your business!

Housing Market Update
with Metrics from Vermont REALTORS

Everywhere I go, I am asked the same question over and over again, "How's the real estate market?"

If you're a "numbers geek" and appreciate and understand the complexities of statistics, you'll enjoy the following data.

Image courtesy of hywards/

FreeDigitalPhotos.net.

According to Vermont REALTORS, new listings STATEWIDE were down 0.5 percent for single-family homes, but increased 3.7 percent for townhouse-condo properties. Pending sales increased 1.5 percent for single-family homes, but decreased 2.9 percent for townhouse-condo properties.

The Median Sales Price was down 1.8 percent to $216,000 for single-family homes, but increased 15.3 percent to $198,000 for townhouse-condo properties.

Vermont REALTORS has provided the following statistical analysis with graphs:

http://www.vermontrealtors.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/VR_MMI_2014-07.pdf

Keep in mind that the data in the report is statewide and analyzed by county.  Our local real estate market area encompasses four counties: Windsor County (Weston, Andover, Ludlow, Chester), Windham County (Londonderry, Windham, Stratton, Winhall), Bennington County (Landgrove, Peru, Manchester, Dorset) and Rutland County (Mount Holly, Danby).

Chartered in 1945, Vermont Realtors serves more than 1400 members, comprised of 12 local boards of REALTORS. Vermont Realtors is part of the National Association of Realtors, the largest trade association in the U.S. with more than 1 million members.

Green Mountain Gourmet

This fast and easy summer favorite involves just six ingredients and takes about 25 minutes from start to dinner. Serves four, but this recipe can be easily halved, doubled, etc. Enjoy!

Baked Salmon

with Spicy Maple Glaze

* Salmon steaks for four - you pick the size
* 1/4 cup mayonnaise (can be light or reduced
    fat, but regular bakes best)

* 1 tablespoon maple syrup
* 1 tablespoon Sugar Bob's Smoked Maple
    Syrup (1) (2)

* 2 tablespoons soy sauce

* 1 tablespoon Sriracha (or other Asian-style

    hot sauce)

Preheat your grill or oven to about 375 degrees.

1. Mix mayonnaise, maple syrup, soy sauce and Sriracha in a bowl and wisk until smooth.

If using the oven:

2. Place a non-stick baking mat on a sheet pan and cover baking mat lightly

with teaspoon of vegetable oil or spray with cooking spray.

3. Place the salmon steaks skin-side down with at least 1.5-2 inches of space between the steaks and brush salmon liberally with sauce.

4. Bake for about 20 minutes or until salmon steaks are slightly opaque in the center. Thick steaks may need slightly more than 20 minutes.

5. Turn oven to broil and move pan to top rack or broiling section and broil for 5 minutes.

If using the grill:

2. Place salmon steaks skin-side down on a lightly oiled or sprayed large, doubled sheet of tin foil and brush liberally with sauce.

3. Grill for about 20 minutes or until salmon steaks are slightly opaque in the center. Thick steaks may need slightly more than 20 minutes.

Serve hot or warm with remaining sauce, rice and a vegetable or at room temperature on top of a salad of mixed greens, tomatoes and other veggies.

Notes:
  (1) Sugar Bob's Smoked Maple Syrup can be purchased at lots of local stores, the Londonderry Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings, online at http://www.sugarbobsfinestkind.com/ or by calling Sugar Bob at (802)824-4486.

(2)If you don't have Smoked Maple Syrup, just double the amount of the regular maple syrup to two tablespoons. But, more importantly, why don't you have Smoked Maple Syrup?
