March 2014

In this issue . . .
Welcome
Dear ,

Mud season is around the corner and that means spring is not far behind! We had a fantastic winter, just like old-fashioned winters of yesteryear! I hope you had a chance to enjoy some outside fun.

If you're thinking about selling (or buying), the spring is a great time to position yourself for our summer selling "season." New listings will be coming on throughout the next couple of months and buyers are kicking their search into full gear now that the snow is melting and grounds and landscaping will soon be visible.

Give me a call anytime to discuss the real estate market! I always enjoy the opportunity to reconnect and look forward to hearing from you.

Green Mountain Gourmet

I've been known to enjoy good margarita (preferably on the beach in Mexico) and, thanks to another margarita connoisseur, I share this recipe as a resounding cure for the cabin fever that all Vermonters experience in late March and early April.

CREAMY MARGARITA POPSICLES

  • 1¼ cup fresh lime juice (about 8 limes), plus 4 limes for stabilizing the popsicle sticks
  • 1 (14oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup water*
  • ½ cup tequila*
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice (optional)
  • Kosher salt or margarita salt
  • 12 (3oz) Dixie cups
  • 12 small popsicle sticks or craft spoons
  • A large pitcher

In a pitcher, combine the lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, water, tequila, and orange juice. It is important to combine the ingredients in a container that has a spout because it will make it much easier to pour the mix into cups.

Place the Dixie cups on a baking sheet, so it will be easy to transport them to the freezer. Fill each Dixie cup 90% of the way with the tequila mixture.

Slice the limes into ¼-inch thick rounds. Push a popsicle stick or craft spoon through the center of each lime round, so that half of the stick pokes out from each side. Top the mixture with the lime sticks. Make sure the lime is resting directly on top of the tequila mixture.

Freeze for at least 6 hours, or overnight. When ready to remove the popsicles from the Dixie cups, simply snip a small cut in the rim of each cup and peel them away from the popsicle.

Place the popsicles onto a dish with crushed ice to keep them from melting too quickly and sprinkle the tops generously with kosher salt just before serving.

* The water-to-tequila ratio can be adjusted to suit your taste!

Step-by-step instructions can be enjoyed at http://blog.hostthetoast.com/creamy-margarita-popsicles/.

Bromley Mountain's 2nd Annual Rando Race

Rando - short for randonnée - ski racing hearkens back to skiing's early years, when skiers challenged the mountain both up and down, without the help of chairlifts.  Using climbing "skins" with alpine touring or telemark bindings (or even "split" snowboards), racers start at the base of the mountain, ascend it, then descend it (on marked in-bounds ski area trails), as fast as possible, over multiple laps, up to 5,000' cumulative vertical, in the truest test of the most complete skier overall. Information at https://www.facebook.com/NERandoRaceSeries

Wednesday, March 26

Vermont Arts Exchange Concert - Critically-acclaimed singer, guitarist, composer and bandleader Howard Fishman's exuberant, spontaneous, and unvarnished music has made him a favorite of audiences and critics alike. Ever-evolving and increasingly difficult to pin down, Fishman filters a deep passion for New Orleans jazz, Brooklyn soul, open-hearted country, blues and gospel music through a completely original, experimental aesthetic, to create a sound entirely his own. The New York Times has written that his music "transcends time and idiom." Tickets, $22 in advance, $26 at the door, $15 for students available at www.brownpapertickets.com and information at http://www.vtartxchange.org/bms.php
