Greetings!
It has been a long time coming for news on your local IIBA® Chapter. And we have plenty of news to share. Below you will read about changes in our chapter from the board of directors and some changes this will bring to your chapter.

Reduction in Membership Dues!

Whoo hoo! Good news! The Seattle IIBA Chapter board has voted to reduced chapter dues from $35 to $25! That's right, a $10 reduction. This is not a temporary "reel 'em in" sale, but our longer term fee. This is great news for a number of members that will soon be receiving membership renewal notices.

We reviewed our chapter dues compared to other chapters, other local professional groups, and our operating budget to determine this change was sustainable to the chapter while providing an advantage to current and potential members. IIBA International Membership is required for local membership per the IIBA. See the link below for information on how to receive the following benefits if you are not already a member.

  • Copy of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge 2.0
  • Free Chapter meetings
  • Access to Webinars on Business Analysis
  • Online library to more than 300 books
  • And many more resources!

Location:

Bellevue College

Building NWCET, Conference Lecture Hall Room N201

Encore presentation from Project World / Business Analysis Worlds Vancouver and Victoria BC and the PMI Global Congress in Vancouver.

There is a change in the understanding of project success in the air these days.  Conduct an internet search and you will find that focus is shifting from projects that deliver on time, budget, and scope to ensuring that projects bring value to the business. What is not clear is who is responsible for the business value. Is it the project manager overseeing the development and delivery of the project? Perhaps it is the business analyst developing requirements and validating the solution. What is the role of the project sponsor? Each has a significant role to play in achieving business value.  Objectives:    Definition of "business value" and project success Roles of the project sponsor, project manager, and business analyst Measuring project success.

"Who Are You"

Have you ever wondered where the BAs in Washington are? Well I have, so I did some scouring of data.com data on business analysts in our state and found some interesting statistics. Wow! I knew that there was a concentration of IT in Seattle and the Eastside, but WOW! Using area codes for records of those with 'business analyst' in the job title we find:

BA-Stats

78% of WA BAs are in the Greater Seattle area. Our challenge, to be inclusive of the 22% who are not. Please let me know how we are doing or what we can do to improve your access to our benefits by emailing me at president@seattle.iiba.org.

We hope you enjoyed this newsletter. Please send ideas for future editions, articles, or comments to president@seattle.iiba.org

Sincerely,

Vicki James, Chapter President
