Let's Play Soccer!

The spring game schedule for U8-14 teams is available HERE. Games start April 12. Check the schedule and make plans to get out and show support for these teams. (Note: face paint, while technically allowed, might be a bit over the top at these games. Stick with polite clapping.)
Fall 2014 Registration

Registration for the fall 2014 season will open April 14. Keep an eye on our website, Facebook page, and your email inbox for updates. Please be aware that we will transition to a new system (Bonzi) for fall registration. We know change can be hard. But we think the new system will offer a better experience for our users (both coaches and parents), and will help us operate more effectively as a club.

Timbers Home Opener

Milltown was out in force when the Portland Timbers opened the 2014 season on March 8. Our players escorted the Timbers onto the field prior to the game, and Milltown families cheered the team on from from the Widmer section. Still trailing in the final minute of the game, The Timbers converted a corner kick to score the tying goal. We think the cheers from the south end of the stadium might have helped.
Spring Coaching Clinics

Interested parents and coaches should check out the schedule of COACHING CLINICS Milltown will offer this spring. These clinics are ideal for new coaches as well as parents considering coaching or assisting in the future. For experienced coaches they offer a chance to learn best practices that will result in more effective practice sessions.
Summer Camps

It's never too early to start planning for summer. Take a look at our schedule of SUMMER CAMPS for some ideas. In addition to our usual camps from UK International Soccer and the Portland Timbers, we've added a new camp organized by the Portland Thorns.

Trying Something New

As the place where most Milltown players get their start, our Kick and Chase program is at the heart of what we do as a club: provide kids with the positive environment and sound instruction required to learn the game and improve their skills.

We couldn't do it without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer coaches, and it is worth pointing out that our Kick and Chase program is also the place where many coaches take that brave first step into the world of coaching.

Our coaches will tell you that it is a rewarding age group to coach, and that is true. But it is also one of the most challenging. Identifying age-appropriate activities and effective verbal cues--not to mention maintaining interest levels over the course of an entire practice--is not an easy task.

To reduce some of the coaching challenges and to improve the experience for everyone involved, this spring we will implement shared curriculum that includes specific practice plans for each Kick and Chase session. In addition, we are working with Tualatin Hills United Soccer Club to ensure that there will be licensed coaches on site at every Kick and Chase practice session to help our coaches execute these session plans, to act as facilitators, and to pitch in where needed.

We believe these changes will make the transition to coaching an easier one while at the same time providing a consistent, enjoyable, skill-building experience for players. Registration for Kick and Chase remains open until early April. Check our REGISTRATION page for details.

Thanks and enjoy the season,

Drop In Any Time

Milltown's Drop-in Soccer program is up and running, with several sessions available throughout the week for U7-13 players. This program is designed to provide additional playing options for ALL players, and participation is separate from spring team and league play. The program operates on a punch card system, with per-session costs as low as $5/visit.

Word on the street is that Drop-in Soccer is:

  • INCLUSIVE: players do not need to be on a Milltown team to participate.
  • FUN: Hour-long sessions include age-appropriate games and activities that promote skill development and enjoyment of the game in a positive, fun, low-key environment outside of regular team practices.
  • PROFESSIONALLY-RUN: Sessions are staffed by licensed coaches from Tualatin Hills United Soccer Club and UK International Soccer.
  • FLEXIBLE: Players may attend any of the sessions they choose.
Of course, that's just the word on the street. For more information, or to experience it yourself, click on over to our DROP-IN SOCCER page.

Columbia Employee Store Pass for Milltown Members!

We have a friend named Paul over at Columbia Sportswear. We dropped a hint about the spring season starting soon, and Milltown families standing out in the rain, and some of them maybe needing new raincoats or boots. Here's what Paul said: "I can help! Send them to our employee store this weekend."

So, this Friday through Sunday (March 28-30th), Milltown families are invited to the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store, where they can receive an average of 50% off MSRP on Columbia, Sorel, Montrail, and Mountain Hardwear products.

The fine print:

  • Take a copy of the Milltown Member Invitation
  • Bring your child's current or past Milltown jersey to show at the front desk
  • The invite is non-transferable but you can bring your immediate family (up to 4 guests per pass) with you

Please note store hours:

Mon-Sat 10-6pm, Sun 11-5.
