How Our Food Safety Consultants Help You Get Certified
We are a North American alliance of expert food safety consultants helping organizations in the food industry become certified to accepted standards.
The two most frequently asked questions we receive from companies pursuing food safety certifications are "How long will it take?" and "How much will it cost me?" The answer involves many factors: - What is the nature of your business?
- What type of certification(s) is being sought? What is the targeted time-frame to achieve this certification?
- How many facilities are involved? How big are they?
- How many employees does your company have at the targeted facilities?
- What type of food safety certifications or plans do you presently have in place?
Since each situation is unique, the certification process normally begins with a qualified, local consultant performing an onsite evaluation of your facilities, existing documents and processes. This "GAP assessment" typically takes two-to-three days and results in an actionable report defining what needs to be accomplished to become certified to a food safety standard, along with the investment and likely timeline.
If you decide to proceed, one of our local consultants then works onsite with your company to help craft the records, documents and procedures that comprise a food safety quality management system (QMS). Your people are also trained during this process. The duration of these activities can range from a few weeks to several months, depending on the systems already in place, the project scope and the certification being sought.
Food safety certifications require onsite inspections and evaluation of your new QMS by an authorized Certification Body, which involves additional fees. Their auditors typically want to see a few months of records demonstrating use of the QMS. The consultant helps you in achieving this and even performs an internal audit beforehand to get your company ready for the certification audit. If any discrepancies are found by the auditor, the consultant then helps you to quickly resolve them.
