From the Director of Music

Dear Choir,

Welcome to the new format for our Chancel Choir Announcements!  Special thanks goes to Caroline McReynolds-Adams, our Director of Youth & Family Ministries, who shared her template with me.  Also, please bear with me as I get used to using Constant Contact myself!

Hopefully the format has caught your attention!  Now please read on for several important announcements.

Peace,

JEFF

THIS SUNDAY

Tenor Jim Prunty will sing "Give Me Jesus" and Schubert's "Ave Maria" at this Sunday's 9:00 & 11:15 services.  Donna Whited will be the substitute organist while Jeff is away with family on Cape Cod.

Yes, that's a picture of donuts.
Announcements

Will you be singing at St. Mark's on a regular basis this season?  Please respond!

1.) Do you intend to regularly sing with the St. Mark's Chancel Choir this season?  Even if you think the answer should be obvious to me, please respond with a quick e-mail!  "Regularly" means singing the majority of Sundays from September through early June.  Everyone will obviously need to miss a Sunday here and there for work or personal reasons.  No need to mention that.

2.) If you anticipate singing only for major holidays and events, for part of the season, or if you know you'll be away for extended periods of time (a month or more), just let me know the approximate range of dates you expect to be away while keeping details to a minimum.

E-mail Jeff now to let him know!
Doodle Poll: Trial Attendance for 8/27 through 9/11

I'd like to move us to an electronic attendance system.

To see how well it works and to RSVP for the Choir Retreat lunch (which we'll provide), I ask you to take a moment to

click on this link and let me know if you're able to attend the 8/27 Choir Retreat (at St. Mark's; lunch will be provided), the 9/1 rehearsal, 9/4 Optional Summer Choir at the 9:00 or 11:15 services, the 9/8 rehearsal, and the single 10am morning service on 9/11.  Doodle polls are easy to fill out and will help me track anticipated absences more easily!

Choir Retreat!

The is the first Chancel Choir retreat we've held in many years at St. Mark's.  It is intended to give us a head start on the music for the upcoming season - especially since the Earth Mass comes so early in the year.

Saturday August 27:

9:00-9:15   Coffee & treats

9:15-9:55   OPTIONAL: Choir Intro/Review & Sight-Singing Session!

10:00-11:15   Earth Mass rehearsal

11:25-12:15   Anthem rehearsal

12:15-1:00   Lunch (provided)

1:00-2:00   Anthem rehearsal

I've created multiple time slots in the Doodle Poll (above) in case you can only come to part of the retreat.  It also helps us track who will be here for lunch so we know how much food to order.

Community News

Jane Miller sent a note thanking the 20+ choir members who came and sang at the memorial service for long-time St. Mark's member Crane Miller.  Her note is by the folders in the choir room.

We've recently received word that former choir member Marilyn Stiles is in declining health and in the hospital.  If anyone is in touch with Marilyn or her husband Stuart, please pass along any news.

A memorial service for long-time choir member Paul Bugge will be held at St. Mark's on Saturday, September 10 at 3 p.m.  Choir members are invited (but not obligated) to sing for this service.  More details will be available soon.
