The Gospel According to St. Mark's

From Peter Sherer, Senior Warden

Shrine Mont on the Hill - Creating our Future Together is an apt name for what we will be  doing on Saturday June 13th from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. During our transition the Vestry thought that creating a road map for the next two years was critical in guiding ourselves through the transition to an Interim and then permanent Rector.

We will be discussing 12 challenges facing the church and doing some collective thinking about how to meet them. They are in an insert in this Sunday's bulletin. Please take the time to read them. You will have a chance to weigh in on the challenges that intrigue you most during our planning session, which will be followed by a fantastic lunch and a fun square dance.

Whether you have been at St Mark's for three months or 45 years please come and let your voice be heard about how you would like the next two years to unfold.

Please register on line at Sign Up Genius Shrine Mont on the Hill at http://ow.ly/N9OAv. Thanks a million.

From the Director of Music

Dear St. Mark's,

I hope you will consider attending the Choral Evensong service that takes place THIS Sunday, May 31st at 5pm in the nave.  The Chancel Choir has been hard at work preparing, among other things, a stunningly beautiful setting of the Magnificat & Nunc dimittis from the "St. Mark's Service" by Gerald Near.  The choir will host a "holy happy hour" reception after the service.

Please also mark Beer & Hymns on your calendar, a fun event that will occur on Wednesday, June 10th from 6:30-9:30pm.  Plan to bring a beverage or snack to share or $5 to help cover expenses.  We'll sing many of your favorite hymns (we take requests!) and you'll be able to sample some delicious beers courtesy of the 20's/30's group.

Lastly, please know that the Boys & Girls Choir, Handbell Choir, and Chancel Choir all seek new members for next season!  If your child likes to sing, please speak with or e-mail me or director Nadine Hathaway.  If you enjoy singing (especially if you are a bass and attend the 11:15 service, although singers of all voice parts are needed), please don't hesitate to contact me.  Perhaps you don't sing but you enjoy music and would like to try something new.  The Handbell Choir might be perfect for you!  We have lots of laughs and lots of fun in this group.

The biggest step in getting involved in music at St. Mark's is the very first one.  I encourage you to reach out and speak with me after a service, call me, or send me an e-mail.  I'll follow up with you, answer any questions or concerns you have, etc., etc.  I am confident in saying that, more likely than not, you won't regret taking that first leap of faith!

Peace,

JEFF
