The Gospel According to St. Mark's

From the Reverend R. Justice Schunior

Friends,
This past Saturday, St. Mark's hosted Mom's Demand Action for Gun Sense in America for their Mother's Dream Quilt Project. Mom's Demand Action is helping create a series of quilts that honor the victims of gun violence. Several parishioners supported this effort (Maureen Shea, Martha Connor-Donnelly, Michelle Strange, and Kathryn Powers) to create something beautiful out of something so painful. A mother who lost a child to suicide; a wife whose husband was gunned down in a seemingly random home invasion; and a grandmother whose talented and caring granddaughter was murdered in a drive-by shooting; all these women gathered together and shared their stories while cutting fabric and stitching together pieces of cloth. It was a day of purposeful hope and I was privileged to meet these brave women. Please let me know if you would like to be involved in future activities to prevent gun violence or honor victims of gun violence.
Saturday was truly a full day for St. Mark's. We rehearsed baptism with several families with young children in the Nave; we hosted the quilting project in the Parish Hall; rehearsals for the Players' spring musical took place; we celebrated the birthday of a two year old parishioner; a couple prepared for their wedding. So much is happening here all the time and it is such a gift. The landscape around us is blooming and so are we - doing the many things we are called to do, here at St. Mark's and in the world.

Peace,

Justi

From Doris Burton, Junior Warden

With the arriva
l of spring, our senses are overwhelmed by the beauty of flowers budding, trees flowering, and the return of green! Our gardens at St. Mark's have offered us these welcoming sights and smells for many years, but they, too, have suffered during construction. It's time to turn our attention to these spaces that are so special to our community!  To that end, I hope you haven't forgotten my call for everyone to take responsibility for our new space! We're starting outside this spring --  cleaning up our gardens in preparation for their restoration. If you are free Saturday, May 9 (rain date is May 16), from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (or any portion of that time), please sign up in the Foyer or contact me at home or at stmarksjuniorwarden@gmail.com. We have some old materials to haul out, too, so some strong backs would be appreciated!
