KBOO Co-Manager News

Monica Beemer and Mic Crenshaw, KBOO's new station managers
KBOO Radio Station Co-Managers Monica Beemer & Mic Crenshaw
September has been a busy month.  We have a lot going on at KBOO.  For one, our fiscal year ends September 30th and a new year starts October 1st so the staff are finishing up our goals and objectives and budget for the year, which the board of directors passed on Monday.

Some really good news.  We've raised about $50,000 more than last fiscal year and it's still looking like we will break-even financially for this current year we are in.  That means that our revenue and our expenses will be very nearly the same for the first time in 3 years.  As one astute caller pointed out recently, there are many ways that you can reach this goal.  While we do still have a lot of room to go to restore the positions that we have lost over the past few years, we will break-even this year after restoring two of the positions that had become part-time during cuts back to full-time.

2015 looks good too! One exciting thing, there is money to support a new website and app and also the goal of hiring a Development Coordinator, to help restore some of revenues to support the station. ... read more

Volunteer Opportunities
Do you want to get more involved with your community radio station?  Have you wondered what volunteering at KBOO is like? This is your time!  KBOO's Fall Membership Drive begins Wednesday, October 1st and runs through Saturday, October 11th.

KBOO's very existence depends on membership drives as more than 80% of our funding comes from our listeners--this is, in part, what allows KBOO to be so independent and unique.  With shifts available seven days a week, generally spanning the hours of 6 AM to 11 PM, there are shifts to fit anyone's schedule!

The drive is very high energy, and volunteers work very closely together in teams to raise support for the station.  It can be really fun to schedule a shift during a time that you listen; you can meet the volunteers that you hear on the radio and talk with others that share your interests. If you haven't volunteered before, try answering phones & assisting our listeners to become members-it's a great way to jump on in. There are other opportunities related to the drive, so contact our volunteer coordinator, Ani Raven Haines, for more information or to schedule.  She can be reached at  volunteer@kboo.org or 503-231-8032 ext. 213. She'll be happy to hear from you.
