Exciting Upcoming Programs
September brings a wide variety of live musical performances to KBOO!
The Monday Sampler has a folk focus on the first Monday of the month and a variety of bands on the other Mondays. On Wednesday September 25th, local heroes Quasi will play on Drinking from Puddles. The San Francisco Latino punk band Ruletta Rusa will play on Life During Wartime September 4th. And this just the tip of the iceberg for live musical performances this month.

Volunteer Spotlight
by Ani Haines
This Summer KBOO engaged in several large community events. At the hear t of them was the support and hard work of a couple of KBOO volunteers better known for their work in the news and public affairs departments, namely Shay Wright and Chris Andreae.
They worked to build a KBOO float that was a part of The Portland Pride Parade and the Good in the Hood Parade. Their creativity and zeal for KBOO was integral to KBOO's level of participation at these important community events. I want to applaud their contributions to KBOO by highlighting their work in this month's Volunteer Spotlight.
If you would like to get involved with KBOO, this is a great time to do it. The best way to start is to attend the upcoming volunteer orientation on Saturday, September 7th, Noon - 2 pm, at KBOO, 20 SE 8th Ave.
If you have any questions about volunteering, you are welcome to contact me at 503-231-8032 ext 213, or email me at volunteer@kboo.org.

Sonic Outlaws - September Radio Pictures
A benefit screening for KBOO Radio
Thursday, September 12th, 7-10 pm
Clinton Street Theater, SE 26th and Clinton St, (map)
Within days after the release of Negativland's clever parody of U2 and Casey Kasem, recording industry giant Island Records descended upon the band with a battery of lawyers intent on erasing the piece from the history of rock music.
Craig Baldwin follows this and other intellectual property controversies across the contemporary arts scene. Playful and ironic, his cut-and-paste collage-essay surveys the prospects for an "electronic folk culture" in the midst of an increasingly commodified corporate media landscape.
