Greetings!

This has been a crazy, but very fulfilling month. Let me start by reminding you that I'm a financial planner, and it is April. 'Nuff said?

In addition to this, I got my initiation into Voice America in March. In my new radio show, Afflicted by Addiction, I'll be presenting interviews with inspirational figures in the world of prescription drug abuse activism. I've got thirteen shows planned. I am excited to be able to bring you a show with the Producer and Director of Behind The Orange Curtain to discover what drove them to make this award winning documentary and the emotional toll it took on both of them to delve into the epidemic of prescription drug abuse. Also I'll bring you interviews with government officials, including the Drug Czar of Idaho. Yes, Idaho. I discovered that this seemingly innocent state known for its potatoes is ranked among the top ten states in the USA for RX drug abuse.

I'm still learning more about this epidemic every day. Won't you join me as I learn all I can and help to spread the word, and hopefully save some families from suffering the fate of so many? Enjoy this newsletter and, please, pass it on to your friends.

Best regards,

The Fox Guards the Hen House

On March 10, I attended the NCAPDA demonstration at the California Capitol to call out the California Medical Board (CMB) on their complete failure and unwillingness to monitor their own doctors.  As one parent, James Kennedy (who is one of my radio interviews) puts it: "The fox is guarding the hen house at the CMB!"

Parents are outraged that dirty doctors (drug dealers in white coats) are allowed to practice for years after their abuses are detected; they are allowed to kill dozens more, addict thousands more, while the CMB pushes paper around and refuses to act on information in the CURES system that exposes these doctors. What is CURES? Read more here, on my blog

Brandon Update

portrait of Brandon

When a former addict wants to put that part of their life behind them, you've got to respect that decision. It's never easy and can't be easily done when the father of said addict decides to become an activist, writes a couple of books and hosts a radio program on the subject of addiction.

My son Brandon has been understanding; he has put his toe in the water with press that his peers were unlikely to see, hear or read. But a few weeks ago, Brandon decided to dive in head first when he offered to speak after a clip from Beyond the Orange Curtain at a local High School. The high school is about a mile from where Brandon is a waiter, and speaking in public here would mean he would be exposing himself and his story to people who might order their sushi from him.

I was so very proud of him as he stood up on the stage for the Q & A panel after the movie. The panel was Brandon, myself, and the officer who busted my son and took me undercover. I told the audience that they were witnessing the equivalent of a cat, a mouse and a dog on the stage at the same time. Brandon was nervous but he nonetheless told the audience, "Ask me any question you want and I'll answer it." Brandon can be such a valuable messenger and has so much to offer both kids and parents on the epidemic of RX drug abuse. This was one proud papa!
