GradebookGradebook Issues

News

Currently we're working on some gradebook issues that have been affecting both our Moodle and Blackboard environments.  These two environments are completely separate and so are the issues involved.  We're working with our vendors to resolve the issue as quickly as possible in both environments.  Currently grading times are taking longer with teachers checking for accuracy to ensure grades are reported correctly.

In the Blackboard environment the "My Grades" view for students has changed.  We will be putting out a video explaining how it works shortly.

If you are experiencing problems interacting with either environment, we suggest you make sure that you're using the latest version of Java, which is Update 17.  Chrome is not a suggested browser to use currently in either environment. We have found that Firefox updated to version 19 works the best in both environments in our testing.

You can get Java here:  http://java.com/en/download/

Firefox here:   http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

As always, if you are experiencing problems, please log a ticket at our Virtual Support Center so we can resolve your issue.
TownhallNCVPS Town Halls with the Districts

NewsNCVPS is in the process of writing its Strategic Plan for the next three years, and as one of our valuable stakeholders, we would love your input!

We are holding two virtual Town Halls just for you!  During this time, you will hear from NCVPS Leadership about our three year Strategic Plan and the thinking behind it.  We would love to hear your input during this open forum, and you will have the opportunity to provide feedback through a brief survey.

The Town Halls will be held on Monday, April 15 at 4pm and Thursday, April 18 at 10am.

The link for the virtual Live Classroom is here:  http://ncvpsclassroom.wimba.com/launcher.cgi?room=_ncvps_s__8073_1_122559

Prior to the Town Hall, please allow time to run the "Set up Wizard" on your computer.  You will find this on the right hand side of your screen once you click on the link above.  Then you can choose the "Participant Login" and enter the Live Classroom.

We hope to see you at one of the Town Halls!

ChromeChrome Browser

NewsThis is a notification that we have removed the Chrome browser from our Technology Requirements page.  It is now an unsupported browser for both our Blackboard and Moodle environments.  This has to do with Chrome's lack of support for a 64-bit browser and Java requiring that to function properly.  Basically, Chrome no longer works with Java. Our recommended browser at this point is Firefox version 19.

If you use Chrome as your primary browser you should change to Firefox, Safari, or if you must, IE in order to have a supported browser in our learning environments.  Chrome is still a great browser for some internet usage; although, it's currently not good for anything based heavily on Java, which both Blackboard and Moodle are.

If Chrome decides to release a 64-bit version of their browser, then we will go back and test it and perhaps changed our stance on it, but as it stand now, it's unsupported and if you use it, you will experience problems.

PowerSchoolPowerSchool Update

News NCVPS will transition to PowerSchool for its registration process during the summer of 2013.  Schools will continue to use our registration system for Summer 2013 course registration and grade delivery, as usual.  However, Fall 2013, Yearlong 13-14 and Spring 2014 class registration will be transitioned to the PowerSchool system in June/July.  For these affected semesters, NCVPS will begin enrollment in the current registration system on March 1st, then all of its registration data will be imported into PowerSchool during the Year-End-Transition (YET) process.  After July, schools will begin using PowerSchool to enroll for NCVPS courses.

The PowerSchool system will include enrollment and reporting features for NCVPS registration.  NCVPS is working closely with Power School administrators to assure the initial NCVPS data requirements are met to make the transition as seamless as possible.

We will send updates in the days ahead to include training information from the PowerSchool team. NCVPS is excited by this partnership and the enhanced registration processes and data management of NCVPS enrollments.

RegistrationRegistration Open for 2013-2014
News

Registration for NCVPS courses is now open for the 2013 - 2014 school year.  DPI has not released your new allotment totals yet.  Currently, we started you off with your allotment totals that you had for the 2012-2013 school year.  We will adjust when the new numbers come in, which should be soon.  You will likely see an increase in your allotment totals after the adjustment.

With new legislation in 2012, schools will not need to request additional funds for the academic school year 2013-14. If they exceed their projection, funds will automatically become available to cover additional enrollments. A revenue reserve is available to all schools and other State funding sources are now available to cover additional enrollment needs.

If you have any difficulties, please open a ticket at the Virtual Support Center here: http://www.help.ncvps.org/
