Summer Newsletter
|
June, 2015
|
History has been made throughout Texoma this summer with record rainfall and flooding. Sadly the economic aftermath is far reaching and ongoing. We continue to be blessed at CFGC to be financially supported by local funders who understand the need for our services to help those less fortunate drowning in life's trials and traumas big and small.
As the rain subsides and the sun shines anew we know life goes on and brighter days are ahead. Time to rebuild, repair and be grateful for our blessings.
So many wonderful things are happening at the Child & Family Guidance Center this summer. I hope you will take a few minutes to catch up with us. Happy Summer!
Sincerely,
Brenda Hayward

Licensed Professional Counselor Intern Program Continues to Grow
With the help of Texoma Health Foundation, United Way of Grayson County, Wilson N.Jones Community Foundation and others supporters, CFGC continues to grow our successful licensed professional counselor intern training program.
To date, four interns have received full licensure and one, John Trader, LPC has become a full time staff therapist at CFGC, while the other LPC's are now employed at agencies in Grayson County.
The program currently has three licensed supervisors and a total of six licensed interns will be on staff by the end of the summer.
A new position has been developed to lead the licensed interns with program development, group facilitation and management of the Family Empowerment Program. We are proud to announce that Rachel Carey, LPC Intern has been promoted to this position.

Parents...Social Media Safety Tips For Your Children
More and more concerned parents are asking therapists how to monitor their children's use of social media. Parents can help their tweens and teens explore the world of social media as safely as possible by
following a few simple tips.
It begins with parents exploring social networking sites for themselves. We teach our teens how to become a safe driver. We can also model appropriate social media use for our teens.
Be social media savvy.
Keep up to date on social networking sites that appeal to teens.
- Set up your own Facebook account so you can "friend" your teen and monitor your teen's online activity.
- If your teen balks at having a parent for a "friend," give her 24 hours to clean up her Facebook account, then sit down together and go over her friends, photos, and wall messages. If you can't be Facebook friends, insist on having free access to your teen's Facebook page any time you want.
- Use your web browser's History button to keep track of the websites your teen visits.
