BIG CHANGES
Bill Sullivan
Goal-setter Sullivan

Welcome to the May addition of the Heartland Glass Newsletter!

I am happy to share some exciting news with you. Almost two years ago, the management team at Brin Glass identified some strategic goals that we needed to achieve to ensure the long term growth of the company. One of those goals involved moving the distribution and fabrication division of our company, Brin Northwestern Glass, to a new location.

For the past 30 plus years Brin Northwestern has been housed at 2300 N. 2nd Street in Minneapolis. We have outgrown this facility and need additional space that will allow us to deliver a better quality experience for our current customers and meet our projected growth for our future customers.
Doug Nelson, current CEO and his former partner,
Larry Waller, at the original
Brin Glass Building.
That decision emboldened us to take another leap of faith; we determined that a name change was in order too. This name change would better identify our core business and where we see our growth coming from. And that is how Northwestern Glass Fab was born or re-born you might say.

So as of this past Monday, we are officially open for business at Northwestern Glass Fab which is located at 5301 Industrial Blvd NE, Fridley. I am extremely proud of the efforts of our building committee that oversaw the renovation; our journeyman glassworkers and teamsters who helped plan and implement the move; our production team for ensuring we had inventory and the capacity to handle the transition; our customer service and estimating team for their outstanding service to our customers. Without their support and buying into what we were trying to accomplish, the move and transition would have been much more difficult. A special shout out to Stan Mariska, General Manager, for his vision,
Fab new home.
Chris Streeter, Operations Manager, for his countless hours of laying out the warehouse amid multiple changes and modifications and to our CEO Doug Nelson for having faith in his team to carry out this plan! Last but not least I have to thank the team at Greiner Construction and Mohagen Architects for delivering a quality building on time.

If you're in the area, please stop by for a visit we would love to show off our new place!
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read our newsletter, we wish you continued success as always!

Interior glass features combine function and sparkling style to commercial projects

Textured glass walls add to the unique pattern pallet of the interior of the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, MN.

Heartland Glass has been hard at work recently on several commercial projects that have involved interior glass features.

There are many benefits of having interior glass elements including transparency, space saving, efficiency, daylighting and modern, sophisticated style.

Glass features are sleek and stylish but also tough enough to stand the test of time. When it comes to function and aesthetics, glass is a great choice for a variety of projects.
Glass offers division of areas, safety and ease of communication at the Stearns County Courthouse in St. Cloud, MN.

"Each project that we do is unique and each demands individual attention to both function and detail," said Heartland Sales Manager, Garrity Gerber, "Glass makes a nice decorative barrier, offering separation for security at transaction counters or dividing rooms while keeping an open feel like at the Cash Wise we worked on with Rice Builders."

This decorative glass wall at Cash Wise grocery offers separation and security while keeping an open feel.

Rice Builders, the general contractor of the Cash Wise project, converted the old video store to a whole foods market.

"The glass wall allowed the space to flow into the deli space while offering an area for branding and keeping separation between spaces," Garrity said.

The biggest challenge was the film lay-out for the Benedictine shield logos which carried throughout the whole floor remodel.
When the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN needed a new space for their nursing program, they turned to McGough Construction and Heartland Glass.

"The CSB nursing project had several interior glass challenges with inside and outside radius glass tops mounted on stand-offs, heavy glass doors and sidelites plus frosted gradient film with the CSB shield logo," said Ken Schueller, project manager for Heartland Glass. "It was a pleasure to work with a great team on this project. With a great team everything on the project goes smoother." The biggest challenge was the film lay-out and the shield logos which carried throughout the whole floor remodel. "The client needed visual confirmation of exactly what it would look like so we created a computer-generated layout to determine the proper frosted gradient film and correct red for the Benedictine shield logos," Ken said, "Once the lay-out was established, a mock-up was installed.  A big part of the success to this project for Heartland Glass was due to the personnel from each of the companies McGough Construction and Performance Film," Ken said.

Heartland had a hand in the glass design at the Hubbard County Courthouse in Park Rapids, MN.
When Hubbard County sought out a professional team to construct their $5.3 million renovation and addition to their courthouse, they turned to Little Falls based Contegrity Group and Heartland Glass.

"Every element of the interior walls is custom-crafted," Garrity said, "There is no particular brand or manufacturer of the glass that we use for interior features."

Heartland Glass buys their glass from a number of different sources and it is usually installed in a simple U channel top and bottom.

"There is a lot of time spent in the layout to make sure gaps are small and even and the channel runs level," Garrity said.

Things are looking great at Anderson Trucking's newly renovated headquarters in St. Cloud, MN.
White obscure glass at Anderson Trucking headquarters offers privacy with a contemporary flair.
"We put in a reflective bronze glass to reduce the amount of interior glare, while still allowing for large amounts of natural light," Garrity said. "We also changed the interior glass to be a white obscure option in their conference rooms so they can use them as white boards and to better match their corporate office."

Thank you to all of our general management teams for partnering with us on these great projects!
