Greetings and welcome to the June edition of our newsletter!
This past Sunday was Father's Day and I hope you had a chance to recognize your father, husband or special person in your own personal way. I had a great Father's Day weekend fishing with my son Shawn and good friend Pat. We were fishing on Lake of the Woods in the Northwest Angle, which for those of you that don't know is actually part of Minnesota. We fish mostly on the Canadian side of the border and always have tremendous fishing. The fishing is so good that we use dead minnows as bait. Yes, our neighbors to the north require us to kill our minnows prior to entering Canadian waters. It seems a little silly but who am I to question a foreign government and their policies. The fishing is great so we jump through a few hoops. It has spoiled me so much that I rarely fish in Minnesota anymore. The time invested versus the return isn't as great and for me that's important.

What's also important is spending time with my children. As they have grown older and have gone off to college, the opportunities to spend time with them are limited so quality time is important. My son wouldn't exactly be considered an outdoorsman, but he does enjoy fishing even though he is allergic to certain fish. Walleyes being one of them! I could see a little hint of jealousy at our shore lunch stops as Pat and I were eating fresh Walleyes and he was munching on a PB & J. Sorry bud!

Congratulations
Jody and Ryan Torgerson!
|
We celebrate many things at Heartland but it's not often we get to celebrate a marriage and this month we celebrate two! Ryan Torgerson and Jody Nelson were married on June 12th and Jason Kramer and Jill Peterson will be married on the 27th. Congratulations to both couples.
Other good news I have to report is that we are finally starting projects that have been in our backlog for some time. This increased activity has led to new hires for our field staff and eventually for our project management team. We have been able to utilize field staff from our Minneapolis office to fill in the gaps too. This sharing of resources is a valuable tool that allows us to efficiently allocate experienced field staff to branch locations that need them. Estimating services is another area that we have been able to share staffing. This effort allows us to ensure our customers' needs are being met with the quality and timeliness that they have come to expect from us. As our logo states; "Quality Clear Through."
Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter. We always appreciate hearing from you.
Wishing you continued success and also hoping you and your families have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July!

June Featured Employee,
Jessica Hanson
| Heartland Glass sales/estimator Jessica Hanson and her husband Ravi take in a summer-time race. |
Having the sister companies of Heartland Glass and Brin Northwestern offers some unique employment opportunities and advancements for our team. Take, Jessica Hanson, for instance.
Jessica grew up in Cambridge, MN and attended Cambridge-Isanti High School. While in school, she took part in a work study program and worked for Star Quality Glass in Cambridge. She enjoyed the glass industry so much, that in the summer of 1999, just two weeks after graduation, she started working in the customer service department at Brin. She was eventually promoted to a commercial estimator position but then took a break from Brin to get married, have a baby boy, and go to Anoka Tech for Architectural Drafting and Commercial Estimating. In 2005, she returned to Brin and began commuting from Ogilvie to Minneapolis. When the sales/estimating position came up at the Heartland office in Waite Park this January, she jumped at the chance for greater challenge and a shorter commute but appreciated that the employee camaraderie at Heartland was similar to that at Brin.
"I've always felt like we are all a big family," Jessica said, "Being close with my coworkers is important, after all, we spend the majority of our time together." Jessica loves the challenge of a nice project. "I like to be able to get out to the site and see the work being done."
Jessica and her husband Ravi have an 11-year-old son, Chase, plus Remi, their chocolate lab, Katy, their border collie, and Oscar, the grouchy kitty. They have plans to build a new home on Ravi's family farm that was passed down to them from Ravi's grandparents. They have chickens and occasionally raise a few beef steers.
"We spend our free time together watching movies at home or feeding the animals," Jessica said. "I like to get together with friends and when I

have time, I like to do crafts, decorate, and make old furniture new again."
Summertime is softball season for Jessica. "I play second base for our church softball team. "I love the game," she said, "Also, a couple nights a week I go to Insanity Class, a high-intensity workout through Community Ed. Sweat out the stress!"
Thank you to each and every one of our team members for making our blended family of Heartland Glass and Brin Northwestern such a strong, successful one!

County Courthouse with Class

Heartland Glass recently partnered with Contegrity Group out of Little Falls on the newly remodeled Hubbard County Courthouse in Park Rapids, MN. The scope of the project included a new four level addition totaling 7,000 square feet plus major remodeling on most of the existing 28,000 square feet.

Heartland project manager, Garrity Gerber, headed up what ended up being a carefully staged 16-month project in order to allow for the facility to stay fully functional and occupied during the renovation.
"We constructed a 6-1/2 foot storefront with tinted low-e glass," Garrity said, "The upper windows have sun shades and the interior had a glass railing overlooking the lobby. The first and second floors have glass panels above the countertop and the glass over the counters was all measured precisely to fit perfectly."
