Berry Farms is located on Hayshed Road in the Sylvia community in Dickson County. The Berry's heritage can be traced back to the 1800's when their family was farming in this same community. In 1940, Oscar Berry moved his family less than one mile from the farm he grew up on to the land the Berry family still calls home. Upon Oscar's death in 1964, his middle son Roberts continued farming, raising tobacco and sweet corn. Robert retired from public work in 2000 and along with his wife Helen began raising more vegetables and sweet corn and eventually they needed help to keep up with the demand. In 2005, their youngest son Todd and wife Lenee came on board with Berry Farms.
In 2006, Berry Farms joined the Dickson County Farmer's Market and in 2007 the farm added a road-side stand for their large crops of sweet corn.
June to August the farm focuses on vegetable sales and shifts gears to fall decorations from September to October. October is an exciting month at Berry Farms and marks the opening of the Harvest on Hayshed pumpkin patch.
Since 2009 Berry Farms has raised many of their vegetables on plastic mulch using drip irrigation practices to conserve water. In 2013, no-till farming was incorporated to help with soil conservation. Today, the Berry's farming season starts in February when they seed out plants for early spring planting, and ends in November at the close of the pumpkin patch.
Pick a sunny day in July and you could possibly see three generations working in the field.
Come see us at the Farm Home & Garden Show to see what we have in store for 2014.

Ray and Jean Clifton were both born in Dickson County and left to pursue their careers before returning home to 16 acres on Jean's parent's farm on Southerland Road. They both felt it was right to be a part of the Mt. Lebanon and Rock Church Communities, places Jean's family have lived since the mid 1800's. Ray and Jean became involved in the Dickson County Farmer's Market by accident in 2006 when they grew more beans and tomatoes than their family and neighbors could eat. They started selling their excess crops at the Farmer's Market and three weeks later, Clifton Farms was born. The 2014 season will be their eighth year to participate in the market, growing from a 50'x50' garden plot in 2006 to cultivating four acres, two high tunnels and a small apiary (honey bees) in 2014. With over seventy varieties of vegetables, herbs, berries, honey and sorghum; you are sure to find the produce you're looking for at Clifton Farms. Jean shares that color and variety are important to Clifton Farms, on any given day you may find red-tipped lettuce, yellow and purple tomatoes, white eggplants and yellow peppers in their Farmer's Market display. Clifton Farms sorghum and honey sell out each season and their honey won the best in show at the 2013 Dickson County Fair. Ray is always looking for new products to grow and sell and is willing to embrace more efficient row crop farming techniques. The addition of the apiary in 2008 not only produced award winning honey, but helps with crop pollination. In 2010, the addition of the first high tunnel allowed Clifton Farms to harvest produce three weeks earlier than normal and continue harvesting until Thanksgiving. In 2011, sorghum was added to the Clifton Farms family of products. Solar powered drip irrigation was next in 2012 and in 2013 Clifton Farms began growing on plastic. It's no surprise that 2014 has brought even more changes, the addition of a second high tunnel house and Chandler strawberries are sure to be appreciated at this year's Farmer's Market. For more information on Clifton Farms, like them on Facebook and come visit their booth at the 2014 Farm Home & Garden Show!

Three Creeks Farm is a small family farm owned and operated by Steve and Beth Shafer located 4 miles east of Charlotte in Dickson County. Steve and Beth began raising sheep nine years ago to harvest wool after Beth learned to spin. Since then, the farm has grown and evolved into many other endeavors. Three Creeks Farm currently has 4 breeds of sheep raised mainly for their fiber, Shetland, Icelandic, Wensleydale, and Border Leicester all produce high quality wool for spinning, weaving, and knitting. They also have Angora goats which produce mohair and fainting goats that can be milked and provide endless amusement. The Shafers also have tiny pygmy goats that provide excellent milk although small in quantity. Most of the livestock at Three Creek Farm are registered and quality breeding stock is available. In addition to wool and fiber, the animals produce lots of manure! Sheep and goat manure is mild and can be applied directly to the garden, Steve and Beth use the manure on their vegetables and plants they raise to make dye for the wool. Gardeners can buy bagged manure at Three Creeks Farm. In the summer and fall the couple offers natural dyeing classes and demonstrations including instruction on how to grow, harvest, use and plants to dye wool. During the spring and fall, Three Creeks Farm is busy with school and family farm tours that offer visitors a chance to interact with the animals. Shearing day is usually in early March, followed by lambs and kids in April. Depending on the time of year, visitors can see chicks, lambs, kids, sheep shearing and spinning and blacksmith demonstrations. Beth also has a store on the farm that is stocked with spinning, knitting, felting and dyeing supplies. The Shafers also take their business on the road. Working as a team, they take their sheep and goats along to educate both children and adults. They can dress in both colonial and civil war era clothing to portray what family life was like in the past, including spinning and blacksmith demonstrations. Beth travels to many fiber festivals in the southeast, both hosting a booth about the farm and teaching classes. Steve shows their chickens at poultry shows all over the southeast. Three Creeks Farm hosts the Middle Tennessee Fiber Festival in Dickson, 2014 will be the festival's ninth year. Both Steve and Beth are looking forward to the Farm Home & Garden Show where they will have a petting zoo featuring their special goats, sheep, miniature horse and chickens. Beth will be spinning and Steve will have ironwork ready for camping and outdoor activities.
