By the time
 USS ALBACORE novemberlosses
(SS-218) departed on her eleventh war patrol, she was already an accomplished warship. She was the recipient of nine battle stars and Presidential Unit Citations for her second, third, eighth, and ninth patrols. In fact, perhaps her greatest success was one of which the crew was unaware until months after it happened.

The Submarine Force Museum and USS Nautilus is creating a commemorative PERMANENT PAVER WALKWAY at the Museum. Become a permanent part of the Museum by purchasing a brick paver in honor or memory of a special person(s). This enduring legacy is a wonderful way to memorialize a loved one or honor someone special with a meaningful gift.

The Permanent Paver Walkway will be installed in front of the Museum's entrance, and is visible to all who visit. The Museum's beautiful setting overlooks the Thames River and is adjacent to the Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut.

Ahoy Shipmates!

November is a month of remembrance. We take a moment to salute submarines lost in the month of November. Take a moment to read about the five submarines . USS ALBACORE (SS 218), USS GROWLER (SS 215), USS SCAMP (SS 277), USS CORVINA (SS 226), and USS SCULPIN (SS 191).

Going forward, each month PING will pay tribute to submarines lost in that month until we have recognized all lost submarines of the U.S. Submarine Force.

Please note the museum, having been closed during much of November for fall upkeep, resumes its regular schedule Wednesday through Monday 9-4 starting on November 17. Also, please note we will be closed on November 22 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Speaking of Thanksgiving; we want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you to our sailors past and present for all that you have given to our country to let freedom ring; thank you to our members and donors; and thank you to our guests that visit us throughout the year and help to share our history.

We are pleased to announce our first ever "Black Friday" sale at our museum store Friday, November 23, 2012. Great deals to get your Sailor awesome one of a kind gifts.

Please come visit and shop!

Sincerely,
