Two Closures of Dallas North Tollway Near Sam Rayburn Tollway Scheduled This Weekend and Next

Tollway main lanes, multiple ramps will be closed for demolition and start of re-building of Tennyson Parkway bridge

This weekend and next work on the Dallas North Tollway Improvement Projects will switch into high gear with multiple closures between the President George Bush Turnpike and Sam Rayburn Tollway.

Beginning late tonight and continuing through early on Monday, the DNT in Plano from Spring Creek Parkway and State Highway 121 (the SRT frontage road) will be closed. Construction crews will demolish the north portion of the Tennyson Parkway bridge over the DNT. The bridge, as it currently exists is not wide enough to add a fourth lane in each direction.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, June 10, crews will begin a full shut down of the Tollway between SH 121 and Spring Creek Parkway, including the direct-connector ramps from the SRT to southbound DNT. Police officers will assist with the closing and be stationed at all entrance ramps through the closure to prevent drivers from entering the construction area.

Once the Tollway is closed to traffic, crews will begin to demolish the bridge. The old concrete will be removed, and the area will be cleaned up prior to reopening the Tollway before 5 a.m. Monday, June 13. Should there be inclement weather, this work will be rescheduled.

During this work, Tennyson Parkway will remain open to traffic. The structures are separated and demolishing the north portion of the bridge will not impact traffic on the southern portion.

BRIDGE AFTER DEMOLITION
Following the demolition, crews will immediately begin work to build the new northern portion of the bridge. This will take approximately eight months, weather permitting. Additional closures of the Tollway in this area will be necessary for crews to build the bridge, particularly for beam setting and pouring concrete.  Once the north bridge is completed, traffic will shift onto the new bridge, and the old bridge will be demolished and rebuilt.

During the closure, NTTA's communication team will update Facebook with information on the status of the demolition, including when the road opens to traffic.

WEEKEND OF JUNE 17-20: Second closure of DNT scheduled to begin re-building the bridge

At 9 p.m. Friday, June 17, crews will begin single lane closures of the Tollway in the area of the bridge. By midnight, the DNT will be fully closed in the area between SH 121 and Spring Creek Parkway.

The following continuous closures will take place:

●   All northbound lanes of the DNT from the Spring Creek Parkway exit to the Headquarters Drive entrance ramp
●   All southbound lanes of the DNT from Gaylord Parkway to the Spring Creek Parkway entrance ramp
●   East- and westbound direct-connector ramps from the Sam Rayburn Tollway to southbound DNT
●   Northbound DNT direct-connector ramp to east- and westbound SRT
●   Northbound entrance ramp from Spring Creek Parkway
●  Northbound exit ramps at Legacy and Headquarters Drive
●  Southbound entrance ramps from Gaylord Parkway, SH 121 and Legacy Drive
●  Southbound exit ramps to Legacy Drive and Spring Creek Parkway

As always, NTTA appreciates the public's patience during the ongoing construction.

PGBT to northbound DNT direct-connector ramps closed continuously June 17-20

The President George Bush Turnpike to northbound DNT direct-connector ramps will be closed continuously from
10 p.m. Friday, June 17, through 5 a.m. Monday, June 20.

Detour to northbound DNT from east- and westbound PGBT: Motorists will exit the PGBT at Midway Road, and turn north on Midway Road to Park Boulevard. Drivers will then take a right onto Park Boulevard and then take a left onto northbound Dallas Parkway (DNT frontage road) to continue to their destination.

Click here for a detour map.

The closure is needed to continue work on reconfiguring the DNT/PGBT interchange and add an additional lane on the direct-connector ramps.

The Decisions is Yours: Be Heard
Take NTTA's Survey and You Could Win an iPad Mini, Apple Watch or $250 Toll Credit

From June 15-30, NTTA's biennial customer survey will be online at NTTA.org. This is a chance for NTTA customers to share their opinions and tell NTTA how the organization is doing. This feedback is important and highly valued, helping NTTA to plan future products and offerings. This year, anyone who completes the survey is automatically entered to win an iPad mini, Apple Watch or toll credits worth $250.

Survey results will be posted on NTTA.org and included in e-newsletters and on Twitter and Facebook pages. Don't miss this chance to tell us what you think!
NEW:  Video Shows PGBT After Fourth Lane is Added

Drivers now can take a virtual ride on the President George Bush Turnpike and see what it will look like when a fourth lane is added via a new video. NTTA is making PGBT improvements to ease current congestion during peak drive times.

The new, detailed video shows what a section of roadway between Coit and Custer Roads will look like when complete later in this year.
