Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

CTP construction updates in Tarrant and Johnson counties Road Work Ahead Sign

Workers are pouring columns and bent caps--the top of columns--to reconstruct the westbound Rosedale/Lovell bridge over the CTP in Fort Worth and bridges further south that will cross the Trinity River. Crews also are building retaining walls at Edwards Ranch Road.

Construction on major drainage improvements at the intersection of Vickery Boulevard and Montgomery Street continues. Completion of this work is expected by late summer.

Median work on the new Hulen Street bridge is ongoing and scheduled for completion by the end of March. Once this work is finished, workers will stripe the new roadway and open one additional southbound lane, providing two lanes in each direction. Hulen Street bridge is expected to be complete this summer, giving motorists three traffic lanes in each direction. Also in this area, the southbound Hulen Street/westbound Vickery Boulevard ramp has opened to traffic. And, in April crews are scheduled to re-open the curb-lane of eastbound Vickery Boulevard, underneath the Hulen Street bridge.

Further southwest, crews working in the area at the CTP's interchange with Interstate 20 and State Highway 183 continue to build bridge decks, pour slabs and set beams. To allow for installation of bridge deck panels, Bryant Irvin Road will be closed at SH 183 from 8 p.m. March 21, until 5 a.m. March 22.

Other bridge work underway includes the I-30 tie-in to the CTP, placing decks on the Oakmont Bridge, construction of the columns and bent caps for the toll road that will go over Fort Worth and Western Railroad and FM 1187.

On March 22, construction crews in Johnson County will permanently close County Road 920A where it crosses the new CTP. Residents of the Valley View subdivision who use this road will use CR 920 to gain access to FM 1902. For additional information, please contact the CTP project team in Johnson County at (817) 202-9384.

photogCalling all photographers! Fort Worth Public Art Commission is looking for wildlife images

The Fort Worth Public Art Commission has selected artist Norie Sato to develop public artwork for the CTP. Sato and the art commission are looking for images that will inspire her final designs.

Area photographers, both professional and amateur, are invited to submit up to five original photos of water birds, reptiles, amphibians and/or other wildlife creatures inhabiting the Trinity River Watershed in Fort Worth. Images will be accepted via https://fortworthpublicart.slideroom.com.

Sato will design the following artwork projects:

* Large-scale glass mosaic murals for six monuments for a new bridge over the Clearfork of the Trinity River near I-30 and University Drive

* Ten glass mosaic-clad columnar sculptures featuring flora and fauna of the watershed environment marking points at which water crossings occur

This project is being led and managed by the City of Fort Worth Public Art Commission. For more information about the project, please visit www.fwpublicart.org.
