Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

Going to the Fort Worth Zoo during spring break? Watch for Chisholm Trail Parkway construction

Next week thousands of families will flock to the Fort Worth Zoo for various events during spring break 2013. Visitors to the zoo will be able to access the facility using their normal route, but they should be prepared for construction traffic as Chisholm Trail Parkway crews will continue their work on the new toll road.

Since the zoo attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year, attendees may want to consider using The T's Safari Shuttle. The shuttle leaves every 30 minutes from the Intermodal Transit Center Rail Station, 1001 Jones St., in downtown Fort Worth. Detailed information may be found by visiting www.the-t.com/SafariShuttleFortWorthZoo.aspx.

North Texas Tollway Authority representatives meet with organizers of the city's key events, including spring break, to coordinate traffic while construction activities continue.

Construction updates Road Work Ahead Sign

Motorists traveling near the Interstate 30/CTP interchange should get some relief at the intersection of I-30 and Summit Avenue this spring. Additional pavement that will increase capacity at the intersection will be added within the next few weeks. Further south on the project, work on utility upgrades will begin this week at the intersection of eastbound Vickery Boulevard and Montgomery Street. The right lane of eastbound Vickery Boulevard from Landers Street to Montgomery Street and the right lane of southbound Montgomery Street from Lovell Street to Vickery Boulevard is closed through April 14.

Hulen Street bridge work

Crews will begin working on the median of the Hulen Street bridge this week. Barriers will be moved and traffic shifted towards the outer limits of the bridge. This portion of the project is expected to last two weeks. Once the median work is complete, an additional southbound lane and the ramp from southbound Hulen Street to westbound Vickery Boulevard will reopen.

In addition to work on the median, crews will stripe the bridge lanes and Vickery Boulevard between the Hulen/Vickery connection ramp and Micki Lynn Avenue Tuesday, March 5, through Thursday, March 7. There will be no additional lane closures while this work is being performed.

I-20/SH 183 work

Last week marked the first concrete pour for the direct-connector bridges at the I-20/State Highway 183/CTP interchange. Concrete decks were placed for the northbound CTP to eastbound I-20 direct-connector bridge. With construction focused on the direct-connector ramps, commuters should expect overnight closures along SH 183 over the next several weeks.

Also in this area, Texas Department of Transportation crews are expected to place beams for the new eastbound SH 183 main lanes over Bryant Irvin Road on Monday, March 11. A nighttime closure of Bryant Irvin Road will be necessary as crews work on the bridge. Traffic on Bryant Irvin Road at SH 183 will be detoured to the frontage roads during the closure.
