Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

Construction updates & closures

Road Work Ahead Sign

Chisholm Trail Parkway construction activity near
Interstate 30 in Fort Worth continues to progress at a steady pace. Crews narrowed the median last week and shifted eastbound traffic between Summit Avenue and University Drive, allowing work to begin on the new eastbound I-30 main lanes.

Oakmont Boulevard bridge

Crews working on the Oakmont Boulevard bridge in south Fort Worth finished setting beams last week for the bridge's east- and westbound main lanes and now are installing deck panels. The Oakmont Boulevard bridge is expected to open this summer.

Hulen Street bridge

Crews are preparing to construct the median on the new Hulen Street bridge. Once the median is complete, a second southbound traffic lane then will open, providing two southbound and two northbound lanes. When all work is finished, the bridge will have three traffic lanes in each direction for a total of six lanes.

Montgomery Street/Vickery Boulevard Intersection

Various lanes at the intersection of Montgomery Street and eastbound Vickery Boulevard will be closed beginning March 4 as crews make improvements to the drainage system. The work at this intersection is expected to continue through the fall.

The following closures are scheduled for March 4-April 14:

*Two eastbound lanes of Vickery Boulevard will be closed at Montgomery Street. One lane will be open to traffic.

*The right lane of southbound Montgomery Street will be closed at the intersection of Vickery Boulevard.

In addition, excavation work has started for the Chisholm Trail Parkway main lanes that eventually will run under the new Montgomery Street bridge. Montgomery Street will be extended south to provide a direct connection to Chisholm Trail Parkway.

SH 183/I-20 Interchange

Farther south along the corridor, work at the Chisholm Trail Parkway interchange with State Highway 183 and I-20 is ramping up, as crews continued setting beams for the direct connector ramps. Motorists can expect overnight closures in this area over the next several weeks, including:

*Temporary closures of the eastbound I-20 frontage road between Bryant Irvin Road and River Ranch Boulevard, from 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, until 5 a.m. Saturday, March 2.

*Closure of the east- and westbound SH 183 main lanes between Bryant Irvin Road and Hulen Street, nightly from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., Friday, March 8, through the morning of Sunday, March 10.

CR 920 bridge in Johnson County near completion

The first Chisholm Trail Parkway bridge in Johnson County is nearing completion over County Road 920. Placement of concrete deck panels began last week for the final cast-in-place concrete deck panels, which are expected to be placed within the next few weeks. As bridge decks are completed in each area, paving crews will begin their operations starting in the north, and the northernmost bridges will be completed first.
