Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

Construction updates

Road Work Ahead SignCrews working on the demolition of the older Hulen Street bridge in Fort Worth are making great progress in removing the structure. Last week, the bridge deck over the Trinity Trails was removed during an overnight closure of the Trinity Trails below Hulen Street.

Users of the Trinity Trails should expect intermittent closures on the south side of the river, just east of Bryant Irvin Road beginning Dec. 5. A detour will be installed and a flagman available to direct users of the trails around the construction activities. This work is expected to last through February 2013.

Crews continued setting beams over Overton Ridge Boulevard this week. A short nightly closure is in place through Dec. 5 while this work is being performed.

Further south in Tarrant County, crews expect to begin concrete paving this week for the CTP main lanes between McPherson Boulevard and Old Granbury Road. This work is planned to last several weeks. In addition, column work has started on the south side of FM 1187.

Question MarkThe Big Why

Every day, the NTTA receives questions about the Chisholm Trail Parkway project and we welcome the opportunity to answer them. As a part of an ongoing series, we will feature frequently asked questions in the weekly CTP Update in a column called "The Big Why."

One of the most common questions has been: What will the speed limit be on the CTP?

Speed limits along the parkway will vary and gradually increase as the project moves south.

* From Interstate 30 to north of State Highway 183 the speed limit will be
50 mph

* From north of SH 183 to Altamesa Boulevard the speed limit will be 60 mph

* From Altamesa Boulevard to U.S. 67 the speed limit will be 70 mph

Drilled shaft foundations south of the railroad tracks have been completed at the bridge over the Fort Worth and Western Railroad near Cleburne. Currently, crews are placing concrete columns and caps at this location.
