Chisholm Trail Parkway is a 27.6-mile toll road that will extend from Tarrant County to Johnson County, starting from Fort Worth's central business district at Interstate 30 and continuing to U.S. 67 in Cleburne. The NTTA began initial construction in April 2010 on Section 2C, one of the northernmost sections of the project, located in Fort Worth near Union Pacific Railroad's Davidson Yard. In March 2010, the Texas Department of Transportation began construction of Section 3A, a $117 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. Section 3A consists of local access improvements to Interstate 20/State Highway 183 (Southwest Boulevard) at CTP. Construction of the remaining project sections is underway. The entire CTP project is anticipated to open to traffic in spring 2014.

Preparations for concrete paving in Johnson County

With approximately 70 percent of the earthwork completed on the CTP in Johnson County, construction crews will begin mobilizing paving equipment to the project site in anticipation of concrete paving next spring.

Over the next few months, concrete batch plants and paving machines will be shipped to the project site, assembled and tested. The most time consuming activity associated with preparing for paving will be setting up our concrete batch plant and performing trial batches of our proposed concrete mix design.  Raw materials (aggregates, sand, cement and water) from local sources will be stockpiled and blended together for the first time. Developing, testing and optimizing the concrete will ultimately provide approximately 600,000 square yards of durable, long-lasting pavement required for the southernmost 13 miles of the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Upcoming closures in south Fort Worth

As crews in south Fort Worth continue working on the Chisholm Trail Parkway direct connector bridges, various shoulders of east-and westbound I-20 will be in effect on the following dates and times:

* The left shoulder of eastbound I-20 between Bryant Irvin Road and Hulen Street will be closed now through 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28.

* The left shoulder of westbound I-20 between Hulen Street and Bryant Irvin Road will be closed from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, through 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.

In addition, crews continue to set beams for the CTP main lane bridges near Overton Ridge Boulevard. In order to minimize impacts to area traffic, the following closures will be in place:

* Closure: Eastbound Overton Ridge Boulevard at Citylake Boulevard will be closed overnight from 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

 * Detour: Motorists wishing to access Hulen Street will turn left on Citylake Boulevard, right on Bryant Irvin Road, and then right on the eastbound I-20 frontage road to Hulen Street.

* Closure: Westbound Overton Ridge Boulevard at River Ranch Road will be closed overnight from 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

* Detour: Motorists wishing to access Bryant Irvin Road will need to turn right on River Ranch Boulevard, right on the eastbound I-20 frontage road, make a U-turn at I-20, and then take the westbound I-20 frontage road to Bryant Irvin Road.

NTTA: Building a legacy of mobility

Toll attendantThe NTTA didn't build the first toll road in North Texas, but it has built upon the legacy of responding to transportation needs while also putting North Texas drivers first.

The NTTA was established in 1997, long after the importance of toll roads to the region was recognized.

The Texas Turnpike Authority was created in 1953 to manage construction of a major thoroughfare between Dallas and Fort Worth. The TTA also was tasked with collecting tolls from drivers to repay bonds sold to finance the road's construction.

The men and women who helped form the NTTA out of the Texas Turnpike Authority shared a vision of enhancing mobility for drivers in this region by ensuring that tolls collected on roads in North Texas were reinvested in the region. When the NTTA took over the TTA's assets in North Texas, that vision became the roadmap for the NTTA, and it has stayed true to its mission.

Aside from adding 700 lane miles of safe and reliable toll roads to the North Texas landscape (and working to open additional lane miles), the NTTA has infused $3.4 billion into the region for non-tolled projects. Road enhancements and expansions funded by the NTTA are underway across the Metroplex.
