The President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension, formerly known as State Highway 161, provides a new, approximately 11.5-mile link in the growing loop around Dallas. The corridor consists of the tolled PGBT Western Extension main lanes and the SH 161 frontage roads. Phase 1, which includes the frontage roads from Carrier Parkway to Interstate 20; Phases 2 and 3 consisting of the tolled main lanes between SH 183 and I-30; and Phase 4 extending from north of I-30 to I-20 are now all open to traffic. The first phase of the Phase 4 project opened to traffic on Oct. 13, 2012.

Construction update
Work continues on final tasks for the two Interstate 30 direct connectors and the State Highway 161 frontage roads at the Union Pacific Railroad between Main and Jefferson streets in Grand Prairie. These efforts include drilled shaft work, wall construction, concrete pours and sod placement.
The connectors from westbound I-30 to both north- and southbound President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension are still under construction and are on track to open in early 2013.
The SH 161 frontage roads at the UPRR are anticipated to open by the end of the year.
Toll rates for the PGBT Western Extension are posted at NTTA.org.
