Spring Cleaning Your Wardrobe |
The days are longer, temperatures are rising, Spring is here...surely the Spring Cleaning bug will hit you soon. But while you are cleaning your cabinets, cupboards and linen closets, dont forget this is also an opportune time to clean out and reorganize your wardrobe closets and dressers as well! |
|
1. Take a quick look back at your winter items, especially if you are storing them away for the season. Set aside items you haven't worn and ask yourself why. If you have had opportunities to wear them but have just chosen other items over them then that is a sign it may be time to get rid of them (ie 2 pairs of black dress pants but the hem on one pair is slightly shorter so you can wear those with more comfortable heels). However, if you simply didn't wear the item because the occasion didn't arise (ie a fancy dress or expensive wool sweater) then surely give them a second chance and save them for next year.
2. Try things on. Again if you have items you haven't worn in awhile chances are you are not going to experiment with trying them on to see if they fit in the morning while your rushing to get ready for work, so you will likely pass them over and wear something else every chance you get. Set aside even 20 minutes just to try a couple pieces on to see if you should keep them, get rid of them or replace them.
3. Get rid of anything that is ripped or stained; no ifs, ands or buts about it. This includes belts that are hanging together by a strand, cardigans with holes that you "just wear at work when your cold" and shoes that are dirty and overworn.
4. Hit your local consignment shop or Style Swap (PLUG! Hehe). Find out what items they are accepting for the season then see if you have anything that fits the criteria that you can part with. Knowing you'll be making some cash for your unworn items or being able to trade them in for new finds makes parting with them alot easier!
5. Rearrange things in your closet just slightly enough so that items you tend to forget about or hardly wear, as well as seasonally appropriate items, are towards the front/middle. This also includes rotating purses, belts, accessories, scarves and shoes.
**One great tip for ensuring you don't forget to wear items is to hang everything you wear with the hanger facing backwards after you wear it. So then when its time to get dressed you know to only choose from the items with the front facing hangers as a reminder to wear it all!
6. Using uniform hangers works wonders to create a more streamlined, organized look. And an organized closet is one that is so much easier to maneuver. If you are able to, switch out to using all the same color and silhouette hangers. Or if your not looking to make that investment, at least organize your existing hangers so that all the same color, shape and material make up hangers are all hung together.

Where: The Brahmin 33 Stanhope St, Boston When: 5.9.14 5:30-9:00 Do you know a hard-working teacher? A teacher who goes beyond her traditional teacher duties? Do you know a teacher who is stylish and fabulous but would rather spend money and time on her students than herself? You can show your love and appreciation for this deserving teacher at our next Speed Styling for Teachers! At this event, Kimvy and I want to show appreciation and respect to all teachers for their deserving commitment and diligence to education. I will offer wardrobe advice, and a makeup and hair stylist will give mini-makeovers or offer individualized beauty tips. All guests are invited to this event to mix and mingle, observe the consultations, and network with other teachers and non-teachers! Speed Styling for Teachers is a Teacher Appreciation event and we hope to create an event for teachers to feel pampered and special. As Kimvy is a teacher herself, she knows teachers work hard, constantly are selflessness; and Teacher Appreciation Week should not be a week of receiving chocolates, apples or coffee mugs. To make the event more special and exclusive, we would like friends, colleagues, and families to nominate a teacher for a slot in our Speed Styling event. This service will give teachers a chance to be selfish and dedicate their time on him/herself. For $25, you can sponsor a teacher to receive individualized treatment from wardrobe, hair and makeup! To nominate a teacher, purchase a nomination ticket at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/teacher-appreciation-speed-styling-tickets-11229007263 then fill out a nomination form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/93MTNBG. |
