'Tis The Season For Winter Jackets and The Infamous "Ugly Holiday Sweater"

The Seasons Hottest Outerwear

Recently I have had several requests from clients for recommendations on jackets that are figure flattering, look good with dressed up or dressed down outfits and keep them warm without adding unwanted bulk or puffiness.

These are the top 3 I feel fit this criteria and are totally on trend for this winter:

Tricia's Tips
*Remember that jackets are part of your wardrobe too! They are not exempt from being accessorized with belts, pins, scarves, gloves and hats. They can also be figure flattering; the bigger or the puffier the jacket does not automatically mean its warmer. Take for example our Street Smarts: Looks Done Right photo here: military inspired jacket with hi/low hem, flattering fit, built in belt and she Street Smartseven added a pin!
*I once received a very valuable tip on designer jackets: Sometimes the label is worth the money for making a fashionable first impression. Think about when you hang your jacket, drape it over your arm, or attend a party or gala where the host takes your coat...9 out of 10 times people are reading your jackets label! Especially on the walk to hang your coat! And even if you are not label conscience, this rule still applies for those of you think no one can see the rips in the lining of your jacket! (we can!)
*A formal coat can also serve as your "dress". Yes you can wear a wool trench with yoga pants and Uggs when running to the corner store really quick. Don't think of the jacket as being too dressy, think instead of how much more put together it makes you appear, and noone knows you have your old ripped college t-shirt underneath!

christmas sweater

We've all got the family member that proudly sports that Holiday Sweater every December. (Maybe that person is even you!)... But there are more creative and subtle ways to portray your holiday cheer than those very literal interpretations.

Instead try:

- lux materials such as velvet, velour and cashmere

- colors such as black, silver, red, gold, winter white and royal blue

- elements such as metallic threading, sequins, beading or fur

Check out the major difference in appearance here; while both looks still say "festive" (One look is just not screaming it!)
