THIS SUNDAY - July 14th
Benefit concert featuring Uncle Ruthie!
|
July 14th
2-4 pm
Location: Our building, 1525 S Robertson Blvd, 90035
Join us July 14st for a benefit concert featuring the indomitable Uncle Ruthie!
Tickets: $10 in advance (call 310 552 2007), $12 at the door
Many of our members know Uncle Ruthie Buell, Workmen's Circle member and radio show host extraordinaire. Her popular Saturday morning show plays on KPFK at 8:30 am. Ruthie will, of course, sing some of her original songs, some funny, some serious, some outrageous and some ,all of the above. But this concert will bring you Ruthie reading from her first book of poetry, "COME TO MY VOICE". The book will contain a CD of Ruthie reading her poems with flute segues by Jeff Deaver. There will be several other surprises as well, plus Ruthie's oldest friend Sam Levine, The World's Oldest Living Acrobat. This is pretty much an adult concert, because rumor has it that UR is actually (all evidence to the contrary) an adult!

Hope to see you at Yidstock - JULY 18-21! |
We're counting the days to the kick-off of Yidstock 2013 (July18-21). The Klezmer Conservatory Band will open the festival on Thursday July 18th at 7PM.
Yidstock will once again bring the top names in klezmer to the stage at the Yiddish Book Center. In addition to the Klezmer Conservatory Band, the line-up includes: Klezperanto and Margot Leverett & the Klezmer Mountain Boys; Brass Khazones: Steven Bernstein and Frank London; the Wholesale Klezmer Band; Golem; and the Yidstock All-Stars.
There are two concerts on the program that no one has ever seen anywhere else, and which will probably never be repeated. Frank London, trumpeter and founding member of the Klezmatics, and Steven Bernstein, a great jazz trumpeter who's worked with The Lounge Lizards, will be appearing on the Yidstock bill as Brass Khazones. Yidstock will conclude with a massive jam session at the end of the weekend featuring the "Yidstock All-Stars," a group comprised of players from the weekend's bands, under the musical directorship of Frank London. Among those all-stars are two of the greatest clarinetists in klezmer: Ilene Stahl of Klezperanto and Margot Leverett of Klezmer Mountain Boys.
A series of workshops and talks is also on the schedule, including a Yiddish Folk Dance workshop led by internationally renowned Steve Weintraub; a lecture by Hankus Netsky (a founder of the Klezmer Conservatory Band); an instrumental klezmer workshop with Brian Bender; and a talk by author and music critic Seth Rogovoy.
To see the full schedule and to order tickets or a Festival Pass (a limited number are available) visit yiddishbookcenter.org/yidstock or call us at 413-256-4900.
We're looking forward to seeing you at Yidstock 2013 for what promises to be one amazing festival. Please feel free to forward this message to family and friends.
PS: Last year concerts sold out, so don't delay - order your Festival Pass or individual tickets today. |
