LA WORCS: Los Angeles Worker Ownership Resources and Cooperative Services is an initiative to start worker cooperative incubators.
LA WORCS is looking for people interested in starting worker-owned businesses in LA, as well as business people, lawyers, accountants and other professionals interested in mentoring new business owners.
Come Watch the Movie "THE TAKE"to learn about worker cooperatives as a strategy for retaking the economy for the 99%. After the screening, LA WORCS founder Liz Ryder will lead a discussion about worker cooperatives.

National Yiddish Book Center's new program in LA on Jewish Comedy
|
Tent: Comedy is a week-long seminar in the theory and practice of comedy through a Jewish lens in Los Angeles, CA, March 17-24, 2013.
Participants will explore stand-up, improv, and sketch forms with comedians from the country's leading comedy troupes, and meet with performers and writers working in film and television at theWriters Guild Foundation. In the evenings, you'll attend comedy shows at premier venues, such as, Largo, Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater, and The Improv. In morning sessions led by Tony Michels (Univ. of Wisconsin), we'll discuss theories of Jewish comedy from Sigmund Freud to Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, and view classic performances from the dialect comedians of Vaudeville to the legendary performers of the Borsht Belt, radio, television, and the internet.

Volunteer Opportunity With the Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project

The Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project is seeking five to six volunteers to serve as shraybers, oral history field processors.
Working from home computers, volunteers will dive into our growing oral history collection, mining interviews for great stories and preparing them for inclusion in the collection's fully-accessible online archive. This opportunity is open to qualified applicants across the country and around the world!
The Wexler Oral History Project is a growing collection of over 250 in-depth video interviews, exploring Yiddish cultural topics and issues of modern Jewish identity. Oral history shraybers will help us achieve our goal of expanding access to this rich collection. First, we review full-length interviews to identify the most compelling moments -- a wonderful story, a rich description, a poignant reflection. Next, we write a clear abstract that summarizes the main topics discussed in the interview. Finally, we assign keywords that researchers and the general public can use to search within and across interviews.
We need your help! We need volunteers interested in Jewish stories to watch each interview, identify compelling excerpts, assign keywords, and write a clear and engaging synopsis.

Every Monday at 2 pm Thanks to your attendance, her Conversational Yiddish group is thriving with world-recognized Yiddish teacher, scholar, translator and raconteuse Hadasa Cytrynowicz. Originally from Lodz, and later a long-time resident of Brazil, Hadasa brings a wealth of experience and stories, songs, proverbs and sayings, poetry and interesting topics for discussion to her group. Each session is an hour and 15 minutes. Admission is by voluntary donation.
Keep your Yiddish kite flying by attending this group! All levels of Yiddish are welcome. Kumt arayn!
