Peace to us all...
The Workmen's Circle wishes peace to all of the Sandy Hook Elementary victims and their families.  May we all find the comfort we need to get through this tragedy, as a Nation and as a Global People.

May the Flame of World Peace unite us all, once and for all.

A Bay Area Yiddish mini-course in 2013!
As the shortest day of the year approaches and we begin to think about the coming year, we are pleased to announce another four-session mini-course that Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring of Northern California is offering in San Francisco, co-sponsored by KlezCalifornia, beginning Thursday, January 31st.

It's entitled "Yiddish Women Writers in America and their Jewish Feminist Legacy" and is described in the Lehrhaus Judaica online catalog (where you can also enroll) at:

Volunteer Opportunity With the Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project

The Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project is seeking five to six volunteers to serve as shraybers, oral history field processors.

Working from home computers, volunteers will dive into our growing oral history collection, mining interviews for great stories and preparing them for inclusion in the collection's fully-accessible online archive. This opportunity is open to qualified applicants across the country and around the world!

The Wexler Oral History Project is a growing collection of over 250 in-depth video interviews, exploring Yiddish cultural topics and issues of modern Jewish identity. Oral history shraybers will help us achieve our goal of expanding access to this rich collection. First, we review full-length interviews to identify the most compelling moments -- a wonderful story, a rich description, a poignant reflection. Next, we write a clear abstract that summarizes the main topics discussed in the interview. Finally, we assign keywords that researchers and the general public can use to search within and across interviews.

We need your help! We need volunteers interested in Jewish stories to watch each interview, identify compelling excerpts, assign keywords, and write a clear and engaging synopsis.
