Social Action and Yiddish Notes If you have a Social Action or Yiddish item that you would like to see included here, please email it to circle@circlesocal.org with the words "For e-briv" in the subject line. --------------------- This Action Alert is from the California Labor Federation:
Rally to 'Uncloak the Kochs' and Their Radical Right-Wing Agenda David and Charles Koch -- the billionaire brothers who bank-rolled the Tea Party Express, financed the opposition to health care reform, and funneled millions into Big Oil's Prop 23 -- will be in Palm Desert next weekend, hosting a swanky retreat where Big Business billionaires and right-wing politicians will plot how to dominate the 2012 elections. Take a stand against the Kochs and their attempt at a corporate takeover of our democracy -- join the "Koch Busters" rally on Sunday, January 30th from 1-4pm outside the Koch brothers' retreat in Rancho Mirage. Shuttle buses are available from Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside, Culver City, San Diego, Whittier and San Bernardino. RSVP and sign up to get on a shuttle bus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of interest to Yiddish and English writers:
Forward newspaper launched Triangle Fire poetry contest The Forward newspaper has launched a poetry competition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire that killed 146 workers -- mainly immigrant women -- and to address related issues (worker's rights, immigrant life, lot of women, etc.). I'll be helping to read and judge the poems. The prize money is significant: $500 for the winning original poem in
Yiddish, and $500 for the winning original poem in English. Deadline is Feb. 14. Here's the link: https://www.forward.com/contests/
