"He who dares to teach must never cease to learn." -Aristotle
One of the ways BJE enhances the quality of Jewish education in Los Angeles is by providing professional development opportunities to teachers and administrators. For the 2014-15 academic year BJE secured $364K in federal funding, earmarked for professional development, through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (also known as No Child Left Behind). These funds enable BJE to coordinate workshops and coaching across a broad spectrum of core academic subjects and classroom management, and can also fund attendance at key conferences.
"BJE professional development workshops keep teachers current in educational trends and provide an opportunity for cross-school networking," said Deborah Raskin, Principal of Or Hachaim Academy. "Our school may not be able to afford these workshops without BJE or gain the skills to incorporate a particular new educational strategy."
For a sampling of BJE's fall Professional Development Workshops, see below. Jewish Day School educators whose schools are within the LAUSD boundaries and are members of the BJE LAUSD Consortium can sign up for workshops by contacting Janice Tytell.
