Fellowship update - Helen Kim, M.D. ('08)

Bush Fellow Helen Kim, M.D. recently wrote us about the continuing impact of her 2008 Fellowship:

After a long period of working with Hennepin County Medical Center, we have recently learned that it approved our proposal for a new Mother-Baby Day Hospital.  It will be a program for pregnant and postpartum women with depression.  There will be an onsite nursery so mothers can bring their babies and also have therapists skilled in promoting healthy mother-baby attachment.  This will be the third program of its kind in the U.S. and the first in the Midwest.  We are also going to create an attachment assessment consultation service for mothers and children involved in Child Protection and the foster care system.  The idea will be to offer these high-risk families an expert attachment assessment that can help guide them toward an appropriate intervention.   All of this work was built on the work I did during my BMF.  I am very grateful to the Bush Foundation for all its support.
