Welcome to the April 2016 issue of Beyond the Baseline!

I was going to say Happy Spring to you all, but it surely does not feel like the flowers are ready to bloom outside at the moment.  This edition is a little later than usual, but for good reason.

We are happy to welcome Karim Balagh to the club and Rene Guerrero back to the club after a few month medical hiatus.  We hope many of have met Karim and have taken advantage of the 50% off first time lesson special with him.  We are looking forward to many good times with him on staff here at the club.  It's also been great to have Rene back.  I know many of you have missed his jovial personality as we have.

You may have noticed our new logo.  We hope you like it because we do!  It's a more updated look for the club and also represents our commitment to being as environmentally conscious as possible.  It also happens to match the color of our courts.

It goes without saying, but there's always much going on at the club.  Junior and adult clinic sign ups for next season and summer camp registration are on the horizon.  We also have make up classes for adults in May and juniors in June. We're excited for the updates and we think you will be too!

In this issue you'll find:
  • New Private Lesson Package and Pricing Updates with lower prices
  • New Flex Clinics packages updates (What's a Flex Clinic? Find out below)
  • A Father Daughter Feature Story
  • Information on a clean up event to help our local environment
  • Upcoming practice events for USTA Players
  • A list of upcoming events in April
  • Support a former YTC employee that is raising money for Children's Cancer.
Enjoy the April issue of Beyond the Baseline!

Sincerely,

Drop In Clinic Updates

New Name/Naming Contest
A new name has been decided upon.  Moving forward Drop In Clinics will now be called Flex Clinics! Since the clinics are flexible options and players must sign up for them in advance and not just drop in.

Congratulations to Jessica Fichter, Scott Schulman, and Hilary Schmidt for all suggesting some variation of Flex Clinic.  Each of them has earned a FREE Flex Clinic of their choice!

Thank you to everyone that sent in their ideas for a new name for this popular clinic.
We enjoyed seeing your creativity!

NEW Flex Clinic Packages
We will be offering new packages available April 15th!

New 6 Pack
6 Pack of 1.5 Hour Flex Clinics for $282

Packages are still Pay in Full at the time of purchase.  Players can now book all 6 clinics after the package has been processed.  12 and 24 Hour packages will still be honored through their completion.

Why did we make these changes with the package offerings?

You may be asking yourself why we did this.  We found that the 12 and 24 package offerings were a big price commitment and you could then only book 4 events after paying a large amount of money, even though there was a discount included.  We know many of you were not happy with that arrangement, even if you got used to it. We recognized the situation was not the best and so we decided to do something about it.  We are fortunate that as a small business we can make adjustments as needed and keep our commitment to all of our customers in providing high quality tennis programs.

With the new 6 packs, we wanted to make the cost commitment more reasonable and keep the same rate as if you were purchasing a 24 Flex clinic pack.  You get the benefits of the lower price point and now can book all 6 events that you just paid for.  This same idea applies with the private lessons.  You can book all 6 hours when you want and it has the same price point as the 24 hour lesson pack.

We hope more of you can take advantage of the lower price point with the packages and enjoy the ability to book all of your events as you want.

As always, thank you for playing tennis with us here at YTC!

Feature Story

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree

Our mannerisms, humor, and personality tend to be not far off from one or both of our parents.  We don't always realize this or want it as we advance through our own adolescence, but the inevitable fact is that, the apple does not fall far from the tree.  It's no surprise that Eliza Abady would follow in her father, Jonathan's, footsteps in developing her own love of tennis after he had fallen in love with the sport many years prior to her existence.

Join us Down by the River!

On Sat. April 16th from 10am-1pm, YTC will be volunteering and sponsoring Groundwork Hudson Valley's Annual river cleanup.  YTC staff, family & friends will be on hand assisting and we'd love the help!

Approx. 50% of our customers arrive to the club via Rt 9A & the Saw Mill Pkwy. There's a stretch of wooded area just south of Jackson Ave. to the Farragut Ave. exit we'll be assisting with. In short, find the pink taco truck on 9a and that's our spot (by the way, they have great tacos and the best chicken soup in Yonkers- get the spice).

Less than 4 years ago you couldn't see the Saw Mlll River and as a result of efforts like these it's now a wonderful undiscovered spot to relax, ride a bike and enjoy . For details visit www.groundworkhv.org and bring your friends, family & tennis buddies.

We hope to see you there!
