DCA Staff
Happy new year from DC Access: Matt, Julius, Juan Pablo, Mike, Ryan, Martha and Tony.

Welcome to 2014!  We hope your year has started on a high note.

At DC Access, 2013 was a fantastic year for growth. Not only did we get settled into our new office, but we added two new staff for DC Access and a marketing consultant for Hill Ads to help us keep pace with our growing number of customers. In 2014, we look forward to continuing to grow from the exciting, new foundation we have established over the last year.

Plenty of things, though, haven't changed. It is always our goal to provide the best customer service for Internet in DC. That means Matt still spends plenty of time on rooftops across Capitol Hill and Adams Morgan/North Dupont. Recently, he started tweeting weekly photos of the fantastic views he enjoys during the workday. Follow @DCAccess for Matt's #RooftopPic to get a unique, bird's eye view of the Hill and beyond.

Read on for information about how to be sure your wireless Internet is working for all those new gadgets you acquired during the holidays, and how to opt-out of getting email from strangers via your Gmail account.
New Gadgets?
Might be Time to Upgrade Your Internet Too

Are there lots of new Internet-enabled devices in your house? Or perhaps you have some new subscriptions to streaming movie and television services.  If you think you have significantly increased the number of devices using your wireless Internet bandwidth simultaneously or increased the overall demand with connected gaming consoles and more streaming entertainment, you may want to consider upgrading your service package with DC Access. Visit our website to see speeds and pricing.

Do these new gadgets and streaming services have you thinking about saving some money and cutting the cord on your cable service?  DC Access's Free TV DC service  will install a High Definition television antenna for a one time fee, giving you access to over 30 local HD channels in the Washington area.  Its a perfect compliment to your streaming movie and television subscriptions!

Gmail Users: How to Opt-Out of Google's New Feature That Will Allow Strangers to E-mail You

In early January, Google announced a new feature that will make it possible for people to email you without having your email address.

It works like this:  if you have a Google+ profile and the person who wants to contact you has one as well, they can send a message directly to your Gmail inbox one time via G+.  Strangers won't actually see your email address when using this feature, but that still doesn't prevent them from getting a message directly to you.

This is an opt-out feature, meaning that if you don't change your profile settings, you'll automatically be eligible for these types of messages.  Feel a little too invasive to you?  Here is how to opt-out, courtesy of  Slate's Future Tense blog (they also have more details on how the service works and other ways to counteract it without opting out):

- Click on "Settings" under the gear image on the top right side of your Gmail page

- Under the "General" tab, scroll down to "Email via Google+".  There you'll find a drop down box allowing you to choose from four settings.

- Once you've made your selection, scroll to the bottom of the page and "Save"

Happy New Year!
Sincerely,

Martha & Matt
