Hello, Enatai Families! We hope you've had a good week.
Please Give Us Your Feedback

Dear Enatai Families,

We need your feedback! The Enatai PTSA would like your input to help guide ongoing improvement of Enatai's programs in the face of our growing student body.  This year's survey focuses on improving Enatai's community-building activities, prioritizing program funding, improving fundraising efforts, and optimizing communications.  Your valued input will directly shape programs, priorities, and your child's academic experience in the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.  The survey will take less than 5 minutes and is anonymous.  Thank you for your time!

If you have any question please contact Trisha Gillem (trisha_gillem@hotmail.com) or Nancye Matheson (nancyematheson@hotmail.com).
Thank you,

Enatai PTSA Board

Chair an Event in 2014-15

As the school year comes to end, it is time to find our chairs for next year's fantastic community events.  Please look at the Google doc linked below for opportunities to make our school great.  These positions need to be filled by June 8th, because the last PTSA board meeting of the year is on June 9th and we need to create a calendar for next year's school year at that meeting.

2014-2015 Events Google Doc

We would love to see a chair and a co-chair for each of the events.   Chairing an event does not mean you are doing the entire thing by yourself!  There will be people volunteering to help you and support you every step of the way. Every one of the positions listed in the Google doc has a notebook which includes detailed information by the previous chair.  These positions do not need to be reinvented, though you can change anything you like for the success of the event.

An added benefit of chairing or co-chairing an event is that you will learn more about the Enatai PTSA and meet new families you might not otherwise come in contact with.  Stepping in and volunteering for one of these positions is a great way to show your child how much you care about their school and its success.

If you have any questions about any of this, please email Joni Scalzo (joniscalzo@comcast.net).

From Dr. Meyers

Greetings Enatai Families,

I wanted to share some exciting news about our Gifted Program in the Bellevue School District.  Gifted services for Kindergarten and First Grade will begin next school year!  Prior to testing next year, communication will be released regarding the implementation of the K-1 services and testing window.  After receiving the results of the CogAT 7 Screener that will be given to all students for possible program placement, a letter will be sent directly to families of students who are identified in the 99.5 percentile requesting permission for a file review and rating scales.   Then the district will communicate via letter home and have information on the district website.  Documents will be translated as needed.

Please feel free to contact Kristi Stroyan for further clarification and any questions you have regarding the services to be provided to K-1 qualifying students.  She can be reached via email at stroyank@bsd405.org.  Further, below you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions:

FAQ

  • Why is the testing necessary? New legislation indicates that as a district we must create a system to assess and support K-1 Highly Capable students. This follows the model of assessment for the other Highly Capable programming in our district.
  • Why test all students? By testing all students we are hoping to support equity for the services.
  • Are the materials available in multiple languages or is there ELL support? See this link. The screener has been updated and modified to support accuracy among ELL populations.  "...only one of the three tests on the Verbal Battery (Sentence Completion) and none of the items on the three Quantitative tests require comprehension of oral language-resulting in a more meaningful assessment of every student's reasoning ability. Third, items used on the new primary-level tests were selected from a larger pool of items that were specifically designed to be fair to EL children."
  • Who do we contact if we have questions? Kristi Stroyan is the contact person for K-1 Gifted Services.  Her contact information is stroyank@bsd405.org.
  • When can we expect more information? It is our hope to have information regarding services prior to the end of this school year.
  • Why is it the 99.5 percentile? The younger the child, the greater the variance is for assessment.  Once a child has been identified as Highly Capable they are to be served for the remainder of their schooling or until services are no longer appropriate and they are exited.
  • Why are the Jot Down forms completed? The Jot Down forms will help to support the data we receive for the CogAT 7 Screener.  This form is observations of students in the classroom during the school day by the classroom teacher.  It will help provide a comprehensive picture of the student.
  • Why are the Rating Scales completed? Rating scales will be completed only for the students performing in the top 2% on the CogAT 7 Screener.  The Rating Scales from both teacher and parents will help create a comprehensive view of the individual student.  Observational data can sometimes target traits that formal assessments cannot. When combined, these screeners can demonstrate the need for services.

Have a wonderful weekend!
