START THE YEAR WITH AN HR AUDIT

An HR audit offers the opportunity to mitigate risks to your organization, establish best practices, identify areas for improvement, and can help evaluate whether specific areas (such as FMLA compliance, FSA Non-Discrimination Testing, I-9 Documentation, etc.) are adequate, legal and/or effective.  Such an audit is an objective and systematic review of an organization's HR policies, procedures, structure, and resources.  Outcomes:

  • Compliance;  Examine how well the organization is complying with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Best Practices; Compare company policies to those of other companies as to having effective and efficient HR practices to help maintain or improve competitive advantage.
  • Strategic; Assess the systems and processes being used to determine whether they align with the company's strategic plan

Steps involved in an HR audit would begin with development of an audit questionnaire to help guide in the gathering of information for analysis; supplemented with interviews of HR/Payroll staff.  The Employee Handbook, Personnel Files, Medical Files, Benefit Files, and I-9 Documents are reviewed to ensure compliance and consistency with practice.

Following review and analysis, a summary audit report is prepared and submitted which includes specifics regarding deficiencies and recommendations for improvements.  Of course, specific action plans as needed must be established to implement changes as needed to improve efficiency, compliance, and productivity.

RGL Consultants would welcome the opportunity to discuss the audit process with you in more detail and to provide a Proposal specific to your organization.
