To me, the garden is a doorway to other worlds; one of them of course, is the world of birds.  The garden is their dinner table, bursting with bugs and worms and succulent berries (so plant more to accommodate you both).

Dear Friends,

The news has not been good for the Monarch butterfly.  Their numbers are way down and the main reason being given is the lack of habitat and the use of herbicides.  This is one campaign we can all help.  Their main source of food is the milkweed plant.  An attractive annual flower (we've planted them for years so we have lots of Monarchs), orange or yellow, that is quite attractive in the garden and is not invasive.   We now have our milkweed seeds packed and ready to send out for orders.  All you have to do is plant and give a little water, have some patience, and the butterflies will find you.  Here is the link to the Green Store (Earthworms and Seeds): Milkweed seeds on Green Store

I had a few inquiries from members about the weird looking (photo above) green bulb thing in the deliveries two weeks ago..kohlrabi, a member of the broccoli/cabbage family so high in the anti-cancer group.  Sweet, delicious, good raw, shredded, steamed or stir-fried.  But I'll always remember an older man at the farmer's market years ago when we did them and I was passing out samples encouraging people to try it.  This gentleman refused my offer a couple of times and finally said "No, I'll never eat a kohlrabi again.  During World War II, I was a prisoner of war for two years and for two winters, all they gave us to eat were kohlrabi!"  I'll never forget him.

Have you someone you'd like to make happy with a bouquet of flowers?  We have extra right now and you can add to your regular delivery and give them yourself or we can deliver them for you (if in our normal areas), note included,  for $25.00 (delivery charge included).  'Make someone's day'.

May you enjoy and utilize all your items for this week.  If you need suggestions for use or recipes on any of your items, feel free to email me and I'll help.
